Opinions-springers that come closet to PCPs in accuracy and power

blackdiesel, I agree. I own a few high-end springers and none combine both power and accuracy. But from what I have read the new Sig ASP20 (the 20 stands for 20fp) may come close. BB at PA wrote about shooting one @ 50 yards and getting 1/2 " groups and raved about it. Hardair Mag also gave it high marks. Steve @ AEAC has promised a review on one soon. Will be interesting to see what he he thinks.

I agree on the D54/D56. My .22 D54 is shooting at right about 23.5 ft lbs with JSB 18.13's and is accurate enough to make me strut around like Barney Fife.

My Pro Sport and LGU are right up there as well but dont pack Nearly as much heat. (12 ft lb .177).

Sooo...I'd have to second the nomination of the big Diana's.

I had a John Thomas tuned RWS 54 in .22 tuned to an accurate sweet for power shot cycle at 25 ft lbs. I miss that one.

+1 on the The King. My tuned rws 54.shooting jsb 18.1 @ 22 fpe will hang with my pcps out to 75. Easly smoke my buddys .22 gauntlet @ 75 yds.

a 30fpe Whiscombe is rather nice on all aspects.

I’ve never been able to achieve PCP like accuracy in any of my springers above 12fpe. At about 12fpe, my hw97k has a slight edge over my pro sport when shot off a rest. Freehand, the pro sport has the edge.

Have several of both. My hw97k is very close.

.22 diana model 470th and .22 webley patriot (uk) with theoben gas ram - both were around 880 fps near consistently and less than 1/2" groups at 50 yards ..... .177 walther lgv variants were even more accurate and 900 fps... the power levels are hard to compare for me - i cant shoot magnums anymore due to recoil and they are too heavy. i would mention my .20 beeman r9 goldfinger with vortek - 800 fps with 12 grainers and also sub 1/2" groups at 40 yards , very easy to cock, shoot and handle. the .177 hw50s with vortek shoots 820 fps and is even more manageable..... i havent had a .22 sig asp20 or a .22 walther lgu hunter - but i'm in the mix for those now. - paul.

Off all the springers I have the most accurate is an RWS 56 in 22 caliber followed by an Impact Arms RM 100 in 22 caliber. My HW 80 in 25 caliber, my RWS 48 in .22 and my RWS 52 in 177 shoot well but are to hold sensitive to recommend.

My HW97 and LGU both in 177 often is as accurate as my Daystate Wolverine R out to 40 yards. The TX200 will do it also but that gun is shooting a little harder than the other two.

All of them can make a 5 shot ragged hole at 40 yards when the wind is cooperating.

I think the RWS 460 magnum comes closest to a pcp regarding power and accuracy. 

With an Athlon Talos 4-14 in a ZR mount, I find the setup very convenient for this rifle. 

Downside: recoil and weight. 

My 48 shoots 22fpe and is very accurate but it's also difficult to shoot well. It sits in the safe now and hasn't been shot in over a year.



It is also a certified scope killer.

I grew up shooting a Beeman R10 that kicks like a mule compared to todays new guns, I like my Jim Shockey steel eagle .22 from crosman that I paid like 90 bucks for when it was on sale. It has the np2 power plant which is great.

none of my springers are as accurate at longer yardages than my two PCP's (AF talon and Benjamin Marauder)

I have HW90, RWS54 and AA ProSport springers.
