Opinions Please

I'm in the market for a very quiet, lower power backyard pesting gun. Primary targets will be pest birds and tree rats out to 35 or 40 yards. If I need to take out something further than that, I have a deadly 25 cal HM1000 at the ready, but the HM is really too much gun to shoot in my neighborhood on a regular basis. My original thinking was to find a good used FX400 in 22 cal with the power adjuster. I had one once before, and wish I hadn't sold it, so I'm very familiar with the 400 and I know what its capable of.

I was also thinking about a BSA Ultra SE. Not adjustable, but considerably less expensive than a used 400. I have the option to pick up a new customized, tuned & regulated Ultra SE in 25 cal right now with either a Huggett LDC or a full length Huma Shroud at what I consider to be an acceptable price. This rifle is currently shooting too slow, but the tuner will adjust to my liking prior to shipping if I buy it.

I've never owned or shot a BSA, so I'd love to hear from some of you who own or have owned an Ultra SE and what your thoughts on the gun are. Also, I'm a little nervous about a 25 cal shooting at sub 600 FPS. I'm not really concerned about shot count, and even at ~16 to 18 ft/lbs it would have plenty of knock down power for my intended targets and ranges. I'm primarily looking for as quiet as possible and very accurate at 50 yards and below. If anyone has experience with the Huggett LDC vs a full length Huma shroud, I'd appreciate that as well. The tuner believes the Huma would be the quieter option but will provide whichever one I choose if I decide to go this route.

Thanks in advance for your consideration and input!

Iv had a BSA Ultra and for the money its a brilliant little PCP its really compact I regret selling it a few years ago mine came with its own little MOD but its certainly no huggett so id recommend getting yourself one. Its good that your not worried about shot count because you not going to get many shots per charge from an ultra .25 but 18FT/LBS is more an enough for small pest at 35 yards. I have had BSA's in my collection from the start and my R10 is like the landrover of the fleet its never let me down an is solid as a rock like all of the BSA's iv had.

I have the scorpion SE in .25 it has a little bit more oomph than the ultra SE , but it shoots like a house on fire. It's not a barn burner by any means either. It drives the JSB 25.39 pellet a little slower than a FX wildcat or Vulcan, but it gets the job done. Trouble is, they are hellish loud. I have a decent moderator on, but it is not as quiet as it could be, and not as quiet as other shrouded/LDC'd .25 guns that launch pellets much faster. If you buy it, see if you can get either a HuuB shroud, or get Neil Clague to make you something to quieten it down. That said, my scorpion is a tack driver. It also can fit the .25 Predator Polymag pellets! They are a fairly tight fit in the mags, but no jams yet.

Thanks to all that have replied! Greatly appreciated! I realized that above I said Huma shroud, but I meant Huub. The seller is offering me the choice of either the Huggett LDC or a full length Huub shroud. It also has a Rowan Engineering trigger (not sure if that addresses the trigger noise that Lins mentions or not)

Anyone had experience with both a Hugget LDC and a Huub shroud that can comment on one vs the other?

Thanks again for your input gents!
