Open sights on Marauder pistol

Not exactly on a P-Rod but briefly on a 1720t Which is very similar used a Williams rear sight on the dovetail and a 12 GA slip on fiber optic shotgun site with concentric shims at the front of the shroud. You can trim and epoxy if you want it permanent once sighted in. Front fiber optics come in different colors. YO!

You can even use any dovetail mounted rear sight if you want even from another gun such as a Nova Freedom. YO!

Yup sure have, this is what I used. Williams rear notched sight originally came with a new 2300s purchase, Front sight I made, turned and bored a piece of aluminum to the size I wanted. Put a shallow groove in it for the fiber optic, cut it, painted and glued the red fiber in place. Stuck it on the shroud with scotch double sided tape. The tape is real thin and does not come off easily. Rear sight is really nice, solid clicks, lots of adjustment. That one is a blade style, if I were to purchase again it wound have been a peep style. Old eyes find it easier with peep compared to blade.

WOW! Thanks guys. I knew I wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel.

I live on a large lake in central Texas and can usually set up targets on the lake bed. Not this year with the lake full. We have 11 houses on the property, all normally empty except mine. But with people out of work due to the virus, other family members are staying out here so shooting across yards is out most of the time. Most of my shooting now is in the shop or shooting pine cones out of the tree with the lake as a back stop.

I've removed scopes and red dot sights from eight guns, CO2 guns, springers and a pcp. Receiver sights on the rifles and open notch on the pistols. Rifles are Crosman 160, Benjamin Discovery, FWB 124 and 300s, BSA Mercury and now will be the P-rod. Just needed an idea or two on the P-rod as I preferred not to drill and tap the end of the shroud. Even considered the TX200, but the front of that barrel kind of has me stumped.

Actually, it's been really fun going back to open type sights even with my 80 year old eyes.

I just rested a Williams Streamlined Sight Ramp on top of my P-Rod OEM shroud to check for fit.

The radii are very close and I think one would match up

Attachment via screw if it's ok to drill into the shroud , silver solder if that's ok on the shroud;; or adhesives such as JB weld or cyanoacrylate (Crazy) glue might do it.

If I can get the photo took to upload I will post it.

Here's a a link so you can see what one looks like

They are available in a few different heights, as are the sights that fit into the dovetail

Milehighairgunner,

It's interesting that the rear sight you used fit your pistol. I tried the same sight on my P-rod yesterday and it would not slide onto the dovetail. I've got the same sight on three other guns, 2240's and 2250, but the dovetail on my P-rod just won't take the sight. Maybe I'll pull one off one of the other pistols and see it it will slide onto the P-ROD. Might be some slight size difference between the sights. Strange that it worked on your gun and not mine.

I have done the same as MileHighAirGunner on a Prod based pistol w/1701 tube. You need the high ramp to see over the mag. The base needs allot of elbow grease (filing) to fit the square edges of the breech. Front sight used screws. Also need to lock down shroud from turning on mount. I guessed wrong on ramp height and blade and ended up with just the ramp modified to also act as blade.

The shotgun snap-on sight does squeeze on the Prod shroud but is two low for mag. Even in single shot, too low for the rear sight. Should work on a steel breech with a prod diameter sized LDC.

@Jonah

Yeah you gotta file that Williams WGRS-54 quit a bit to get it to fit the Prod dovetail. I'll just tell ya upfront, it's going to be a bit of a PITA. Plan on it taking some time if you try it. I found no better option though. This seems to be it. I do like the sight because there's nothing hanging off the side of the pistol. Makes it much more streamlined.

@SilentSquirrel

I tapped and screwed the ramp to the shroud. I prefer open sights on pistols. I can't take 100% credit for everything I did here. I got some inspiration from Mr. Fuzzygrub up there. He's got several posts over on GTA about his pistol builds. Pretty cool. He said was going to build one in .25 cal too. Not sure if he's done with it yet.

Like Fuzzygrub said if you do this route you're going to need a high sight to see over the mag. I used the .250" 1/16" gold bead front sight, and the 5/16" Streamline front ramp. I kind of guessed on what I'd need. seems to be ok. I can hit where I'm aiming with it at least (at 20' in my garage) but she's pretty loud and definitely not suburban neighborhood backyard friendly as you see it in the picture. I installed a DonnfyFL adapter for a moderator. I used a .875" TKO because that is what I had on hand but I'm having issues with POI with the moderator attached. It's way off to the right for some reason. Haven't had a lot of time to play around with it much. Thing is that same moderator works great on my Disco with no POI problems.

I swapped out the peep sight on the WGRA-54 with a square notch blade sight. I don't like peeps on pistols either. Only on rifles. I had to get a different screw for the front of the streamline sight though. Not sure if I just got the wrong screw with mine or what happened. It barely grabbed on and slightest bump would knock it off. So I had to get a longer screw and cut it to length to get a good bite in the threads I tapped in the shroud. Had to modify the screw to so the head fit in the hole in the sight too. Another option maybe a Williams 20 ga shotgun shorty ramp. Only one screw holding it on though.

Anyone know of a P-rod shroud extension three to four inches long, same diameter as the shroud? Don't need one with baffles as noise is not a problem.

Better yet, anyone have an unaltered P-rod shroud they no longer want?

Years ago, Marmot Militia made them (3.25"), but haven't seen any in a long time. I've long sold the two I use to have. Try contacting David (Rocker1) on GTA for a custom length shroud. Good work at a reasonable price.

Myself, don't have any spare shrouds, but ordering direct from crosman, they are reasonable, as well.

This makes the 9th airgun I've removed optics from, red dot or scope, and am shooting with either notch opens on pistols or receiver on rifles. Even though I live in the country, our lake is full so no targets on lake bed and with other families unable to work right now, they are out here enjoying our lake houses. So, most any shooting I can do is in my shop. Open type sights just work better in the shorter distance.

The AR type stock I had on P-rod came off as the comb was too high for the receiver sight. Crosman stock works best now. Front sight is just in place temporarily with rubber cement so it can be easily removed. Contacted Rocker1 about a short extension to mount the front sight in a permanent manner and can be removed when I go back to a scope. Just need to verify his payment address to order the extension. Waiting on his response.

The front sight looks very well on the gun

Is it an off the shelf item from Williams or Marble Arms?

The rear sight looks to be a a Williams FP-GR.

Is it?
