old tool question

I’m speculating here, but it appears that those markings are possibly trademark/logo markings as seen in this link http://alloy-artifacts.org/trademarks-and-logos.html

I made soft jaws for slip joint pliers out of thick aluminum sheet. Will work on Channel lock type as well. Makes them very useful when working on things that you don't want to scratch. That includes about everything I work on. I don't like to butcher. Very useful for gripping overly tight things that are knurled without damage for example. "Thumbs up emoji here"

A strip of leather from an old belt is also usefull to use with pliers or other tools with serations on the working surface to prevent scratching a finished surface

May I suggest you be careful with that. I have seen the coarser serations further back in the jaws cut right through leather. (wink emoji here)
