Old school Falcon PCP VS Vulcan youngster

I’ve been mostly focused on higher power .25 & .30 long range shooting lately. I wanted to get some .22s out and plink shorter range for a change. I decided to get my old .22 Falcon FN19 out to play. This gun is non-regulated and fairly basic. It has a really good 2-stage trigger. She’s always been lights-out in the accuracy department. Set to shoot the 15.9 JSBs at 860 fps.

I put the .22 Vulcan gen 4, I recently acquired, up against her. This pup is also accurate, smooth forward side-lever, great 2-stage trigger, regulated and gets a ton of shots on a fill. Set to shoot the 15.9 JSBs at 905 fps.

The young Vulcan was up first. The game was 5 consecutive 5-shot groups from 40 yards. Smallest average for all 5 groups wins. Vulcan did great and I thought that the Falcon may have bitten off more than she could chew. The Vulcan average was 0.37” ctc.

I was wrong! She yawned and then commenced to putting the smack-down on the cute little Vulcan pup. She didn’t take kindly to being put away in that dark case for so long. She laid ‘em down with sweet precision. Don’t underestimate classic craftsmanship. Falcon averaged 0.34” ctc.

It was fun! I think I’ll make these duels 🤺 a regular thing. Here’s some pictures.

P.S. The Vulcan said he pulled one to make it more interesting 🤣

Awesome shooting Derrick. I love it when members post their contests between guns. Look forward to more of this. And I can't wait for some cool crisp weather to get here so I can enjoy pitting my crew against each other.

Yup, take that pulled shot from the Vulcan out of the mix and things would be different? LOL Close enough for a tie in my book!

Loved this little showdown! Just goes to show that accuracy is not a new phenomenon. I think alot of people considering trying a pcp would be better off with a tried and true older rifle that is of a simple design and well built like the falcon, s400 etc. I recently accuired a theoben rapid 7 MKII that is incredibly accurate, non regulated and very simple to service and adjust. Don't get me wrong I love the new stuff but sometimes newer is not always better.
