Old school .30 cal accuracy

Sometimes Old School is the best school. Been working my old .30 FX Bobcat Mk2 for 2022 Extreme Field Target ((EFT). This gun is just as accurate as the one I shot at 2019 EBR, The Terminator. I sold that one but kept thinking about the accuracy so I found a well used one and it’s about ready to rock.

First pic 50 yards prone 9 shot magazine.

Hard to beat the old smooth twist .30. I picked up Derricks old Bobcat MK2 .30 (purple rain I belive he called it)!

Currently it is back with him getting a new Huma reg installed and a reseal, valve stem, etc. etc.

One of those guns you can just point and shoot.....

Not sure the why or what but always found a Ronin on the end increases accuracy with the .30 Bobcat, not to mention makes it incredibly quiet to boot....

I actually have a small Tanto on mine and it works great. My old one I had the Ronin. In addition to the Huma and new valve plus reseal, I recommend a larger titanium valve seat from 910 Airgun Repair. Increases efficiency and allows the reg to be set about 10 bar lower for equivalent power.

I think to this day the old 14mm solid ST barrel in .30 is the best pellet barrel ever made. FX has been trying for many years with the STX liner system to get back to the accuracy and reliability of the .30 ST barrel. Still not quite there IMHO but they are getting close with the Slow Twist .30 pellet liner introduced earlier this year.

I remember Purple Rain. Derrick and I shared an AirBnB at RMAC 2019 and he had that gun and I had the Terminator. Both were .30 Bobcat Mk2s.

The Cats are great. MK2 over MK1 all day. The MK1 has some plumbing that is best suited for home gas lines!!

Ha! You got that right. Good ole Home Depot engineering on that Mk1. Lesson for all you guys that may want an older Bobcat. Steer clear of the Mk1. It’ll give you nothing but headaches. The Mk2 is night and day better…

A lot years ago I bought an FX Indy in .30 Cal.

I have been cautious and have take care of it. It has always worked perfectly and first and third shots hit exactly where I aim. Second one hits a little bit up and right. Then I have to pump again.

It is super comfortable to have a .30 Cal with 77 foot pounds of energy that you can take with you without needing a hand pump, a squba tank nor a compressor.

When taking a plane for a big powder burner hunt, the Indy is always invited.
