Hi folks,
I have pulled my old crosman 760 out from the back of the closet and started shooting it again. After about 50 shots or so with 6 pumps each my oiling ring has torn and now interferes with pumping. It still pumps but it is hard because the ring is foam and hangs out in the way.
I contacted Crosman support and they do not carry the part anymore. Understandable because it is a 38 year old gun. They instead are giving me information about the o-rings. There is nothing wrong with the o-rings. The gun seals fine and shoots straight. I was getting a two inch group at 18 yards and this is me out of practice so it probably could do better. After back and forth a few times with crosman support it is clear they just don't know about this older gun, and think I don't know the difference between an O-ring and an oiling ring. They did give me a handy copy of the parts diagram which does not include the oiling ring. I get it the thing is nearly 4 decades old.
I am thinking I will oil the Oiling ring one last time and shoot a bit with the hard pumping then just tear the ring out, and hope it lasts a while. I honestly didn't do the recommended oiling every 250 shots anyway and maybe did it once a year when i was using it anyway.
I am hoping there is some seasoned experts in this forum that will know what I am talking about and can help, or offer some advice.
Is tearing the ring out a bad Idea?
Should I not oil it first?
Is there another place to apply oil once the ring is gone?
Thanks in advance everyone, and Happy Plinking to ya,
Rolf
