Odd ball idea - R/C car with squirrel skin as decoy?

In the topic of "too much time alone and can't sleep" - I had a crazy idea of making a drive-able squirrel decoy out of a mini R/C 4x4. The germ of the idea is (quite possibly wrong) that squirrels are highly territorial and will harass new comers in their area, and/or they will break cover and come see who the new guy is. I envisioned a tanned squirrel hide stretched over a mini R/C frame, to drive around in the open from a place of concealment. Even farther into my fever state, I saw a small Bluetooth speaker on board to play squirrel sounds. Anyone up for a challenge?

Maybe it is time to take shot of something stronger than Benadryl and get some sleep. Dagum, I can't wait till the days get longer. Shoot'em good.

I wish I would’ve taken a pic of it back in 2010 when I first witnessed it, and that was a squirrel that had been caught, killed, gutted out, and taxidermy’d onto robotic hardware. He had stitching all over him, glass eyes, and a harness coming out of him then at the other end was a remote control. This was while I was doing night work construction at UC Davis, CA college, in their engineering building.

that college, no joke, was infested with squirrels all over the campus grounds. How I wished the college would allow a “thinning out” day for these things.

but, I must say, for the first time ever, I actually felt sorry for that squirrel, who unwillingly lost his life to have robotic skeleton shoved inside of him.

Jim, I was at a friend's house today, showing him my brand-new Huben K1 in 25 caliber, and he came up with the idea of buying a cheap RC boat and putting it on the river behind his house and using it for target practice. I asked him what about when we actually hit it and destroy it? He said, well they are cheap, around $25, so we will buy several. Then it occured to me that we could get those blast caps for soda bottles, pump up a 20 oz bottle and tie it to the RC boat with a 10 foot string. We wouldn't be destroying the boat, and there would be no doubt about if you hit the target or not. Come spring time, I will let you know how it works out.

Sounds a lot more practical than shelling out $25 bucks a pop for the target! My only concern is how much plastic you're leaving behind in the lake. When I'm out in the woods, or in nature in general, the one thing I hate is to run up on the garbage that other careless folks have left behind.

Good point! Usually the bottle stays together, but not always. Still, we can do it with an RC car instead of a boat!

Great idea for sure.Might check game and fish laws as in some states it specifically says no game animal or parts of game animal to be used for decoy purposes. I used chicken feathers, stuffed toy rabbits and a variety of large hairy stuffed kid toys from thrift stores for predator decoys i would also use a Zebco reel and attach line to decoy to move it from a distance
