O-rings for Gold Filter

My gold filter has two green o-rings on each end and both are leaking rather badly looking around locally no luck but did find a post on AGN through the search function that shows the o-rings and sizes. Looked up the sizes on oringsandmore.c there is the bunda 70 and 90 with correct size wondering which would be better? Also on the right side the entry for the air is a male screw in quick disconnect which is also leaking it looks to me as though there should be a washer of some type under this screw in disconnect but nothing there and even after adding teflon tape I cannot keep this from leaking. Should there be some type of washer there to help seal of the high pressure air, what would it be, can a guy buy replacements?

Thanks,

RB

For a static (non-moving) seal like this, the choice of durometer carries really just one consideration: operating pressure. It has to be hard enough to resist extruding through whatever gap is present between the mating parts. For parts with "typical" tolerances, 70 durometer suffices for 3000psi systems and you need to step up to 90 durometer for 4500psi systems. However if tolerances are loose (i.e. there is a large extrusion gap) and the O-ring keeps blowing out, go ahead and step up to 90. Why not just go with 90 all the time? Well for the most part you can but if there are any sharp edges, it is more likely to get damaged on installation.

BTW, the initial qualifying statement about static seals was just to distinguish that abrasion comes into play if the seal sees movement in normal everyday operation, in which case a high durometer is preferable to minimize wear.

Yeah, what he said.

I had the same issue and the black O-rings did not do it. I tried the 70 and the 90 and it still leaked. Here's the link for the green ones.

One thing that I noticed with the original green O rings were that they were very loose on the cap as it was unscrewed from the body of the filter this seems to me to be totally wrong. The off end I had removed once to check how the filter pellets were doing after about 10 hours running time and I don't remember if they were loose at the time I do think that I would have noticed that! On the input end I had not removed that cap until it started leaking air recently and I notice immediately that the green O ring was very loose on the cap that does not seem right to me. I have already ordered the buna 70 and 90 rings from oringsandmore so when I get them guess I'll try then and see what happens. I beginning to think that maybe a different filter is in order something not made in China! I will not run the compressor without some extra water filter as I live in the Midwest and it is very humid this time of the year.

I mentioned that the original green ones were very soft. Once they have been installed and pressurised, they expand and deform. They will be fine until you disassemble the unit again, but they can't be reused. When reassembling, it is very important that the end caps but up to the tube without any gap. Using deformed O-rings will pinch when refitted and not allow the two surfaces to but together properly resulting in the O-ring blowing out through the very small gap. There is nothing wrong with the filter, they are robust and very well made. It's very common to blame products as cheap Chinese junk when the problem is caused by user inexperience or in a lot of cases incompetence.

SO.... you have a filter that you need to check the filter media about every 5 hours, where we live due to high humidity. The filter is made with orings that deform under pressure and cant be reused, which isn't even mentioned in the product description or directions, WHICH would have be some information to know BEFORE purchase. Had I known that little bit of info., I would not have bought it. So once you check the media, your screwed until you get more orings to seal it all up. SEEMS like a piss poor design, that COULD have been made to use larger thicker orings that WONT deform and could be reused again and again. So I have a Chinese filter, that I need to purchase enough orings at 8.00$ to replace every time I check the filter media....because the Chinese weren't skilled enough to design a better sealing system for their filter and didn't share that flaw in product description to potential customers ? I would call that misleading and incompetent on their part.

O-rings are consumables. They supply a spare set for the first rebuild. If you are paying $8.00 for spares, I suggest that you find another supplier. You are welcome to use something made in your country of origin if you can find something that fulfils all your requirements at a price that will not be many times more than one of these. Good luck with your endeavour. A flaw in the product description! That one makes me chuckle.

Here is a link posted for the green orings....https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32970053312.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000013.13.486357cb4PSa6S&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller&scm=1007.14977.165002.0&scm_id=1007.14977.165002.0&scm-url=1007.14977.165002.0&pvid=49ff7251-6a1c-4623-a5b8-c6f468f7e54a&_t=gps-id:pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller,scm-url:1007.14977.165002.0,pvid:49ff7251-6a1c-4623-a5b8-c6f468f7e54a,tpp_buckets:668%230%23170728%234_668%23808%236395%23429_668%23888%233325%2314_668%232846%238107%236_668%232717%237561%23372

I bought their filter BECAUSE it was less than 1/2 the price of others I looked at, so I took the cheap route. IF they had information about having to replace the orings every time the filter is taken apart in the product description, that would have been a deal breaker for me and I would have bought a different filter, other than the oring issue, mine has been working great. Im also glad I made you chuckle, there needs to be a lot more of that going on these days.
