NSA Slug Testing Results - Air Arms and Daystate

On test today are the NSA 19g and 21g HP slugs.

I used the Air Arms S500 22 cal (unregulated), Daystate Wolverine R HP 22 cal (regulated) and Daystate Huntsman Regal XL 22 cal (unregulated).

Starting pressures:

Air Arms S500 (190 bar)

Daystate Huntsman Regal XL (200 bar)

Daystate Wolverine R HP (230 bar)

The Air Arms was set up at full power.

As frame of reference:

1. Air Arms S500 shoots one hole groups at 40 yards with the 18.13g JSB's

2. Daystate Huntsman Regal XL shoots one hole groups at 40 yards with the 18.13g JSB's

3. Daystate Wolverine R HP shoots one hole groups at 40 yards using the redesigned Monster 25.4g JSB's

As you can see, testing distance was 35 yards and 50 yards.

Conclusion:

1. The NSA 19g HP's show some promise out of the Air Arms S500, but nowhere near as accurate as the 18.13g JSB's

2. The NSA 21g HP's look good out of the Daystate Regal XL at 35 yards but groups open up at 50 yards

3. The NSA 27g HP's produce some decent groups at 50 yards out of the Wolverine R HP but don't appear to outshoot the JSB 25.4g Monsters at this range.

Thanks for the post as it reinforces what I've discovered. I've tried Nick's slugs in my regal XL.22,Wolverine 303, Edgun R5 .30 long, and my new Wolverine R .22. Pellets have one all the battles for consistency and accuracy. But....I got a lot of entertainment with 55gr. slugs in my 303 shooting ground squirrels. My plan is to shoot NSA 39 gr in .25 at at least 950 fps. I'm about ready to order a WARP from WAR after I see what barrels are available. I need it to beat pellets in accuracy or I won't shoot it. I'm thinking these choked LW barrels I'm shooting are hit and miss and I'm looking forward to trying a unchoked barrel in the proper twist.

Cheers,Scott

Nice post NLB!

I shot the 19 and 21gr slugs out of my S510 XS today, 35 and 50 yds. Not at the range though, rather in a hay field off the trunk of my car. Similar results as yours though not as tight. For now I'm going to chalk that up to the conditions I was shooting under.

Sunday I plan on getting to the range and shooting off a bench. If the slugs can't do under 1" at 50 and/or under 2" at 100, I will give up on them and just keep shooting pellets.

Guys, I know everyone keeps trying the 19 and 21gr slugs but if you haven't tried the 23gr I would. Out of multiple guns they have the most promise. Nick has said that the 23gr seem to be the one that most people say shoots best. I will be testing them with a longer barrel out of my WARP when Jim gets the new barrel machined. Itll be 4 weeks or so but I'm excited to try them. Out of a Mrod and .22 Veteran long the 23gr have been the best by far. Out of my short barrel on my WARP the 23gr out of I think 15 shots at 55yds only 3 weren't covered by a penny.

Already tried the 23g NSA HP slugs out of my Wolverine R HP and groups were not great at 40 yards.
