NSA Design Change.....

I want to start of saying this is not a knock on nsa at all just what noticed and wanted to see if any others have noticed it as well. I have my impact .30 setup to shoot the 49.5gr nsa slugs at 1020fps and it was shooting lasers at 100 yards shooting broken clays on the 100 yards birm at my club using my atn scope. Moved the atn to another pcp and wanted to finally dial in my day scope a crimsontrace 5-25. Dialed in at 25 just so I wasn't chasing it at a farther distance after mounting the new scope got it spot on at 25 than 50 than 100 yards. Ran out of slugs so opened up my new box and the slugs looked completely different so I loaded them up and gave it a try right off the bat they are now shooting 980fps fired a few more and same consistent for sure but not where I was and now the groups opened up too. I am going to give the barrel a clean and try them again but I may be on the search again to see which nsa slugs my gun likes just when I thought I was all set. Again no knock on nick at all its just my setup does not like the new design the older design is the flatter one.

Did you weigh to verify it's just not heavier slugs that got mixed up?

Hectic time moving may be a simple honest mistake as the dies don't change on their own.

I'm sure NSA will take care of it.

I need to wear my glasses. Looks like dish & cup base

I contacted nick and he said they did change the design based on feedback and testing.

Based on what feedback he change it .. I have not seen one bad comment since the .30 slugs came out from the high speed dies ...they were working great thank God from every slug I used n work I save a few..I'm planning to buy me a Corbin press..it will be a lot easier to order the die you want if you have a sample..they shoot great from my uragan..

I purchased a few different NSA slugs my .25 M3 and found a good for the 26.8 (older slugs with no dimple) dished base slugs and it was basically 1 ragged hole at 65 yards. I was really happy with the tune so I ordered 1300 more 26.8 slugs. When the new ones arrived I noticed that they were different and had a small dimple in the dish. With the same tune I can't get these slugs go group for anything. I'm lucky to have a 6" group at 65 yards. I have tried several tunes and velocities with no luck. These slugs just won't perform for me. When I bought the new slugs I also purchased several sample packs of various heavier slugs and none of them perform any better. I have since purchased varmint knockers and have had really good results so far. I am still experimenting with them, but with little to no tuning I am getting around 1 - 1.5" groups at 65 yards. I have no doubt that I will be able to tune them down to MOA groups. Anyway it's just frustrating to tune for a slug and get really good results and then the slug changes for the worse. Hopefully NSA will improve their current design.

Exactly what happened to me, I cleaned the barrel and going to give it a test again but I don't think a clean barrel will get me back my lost 40fps on the same tune. If not I will have to try the other slugs I have the vk and the hybrids I just liked the price to qty on the nsa and how accurate they were.

This just hit me with my .30 Impact. The NSA 47.2 gr has changed as well. I remembered this thread and saved a handful of the old slugs in case I needed to compare when I reordered. Sure enough, the new 47.2gr slugs look just like the picture above in this thread. The new design no longer shoots well. I shot some of the reserve stash old design slugs back to back against the new design and the old ones had the same great accuracy, so I know it's not me or the gun.

The old design slugs shot well at different speeds and reg pressures, so I doubt this is a weird harmonic issue.

Quite demoralizing to find only one really good slug after testing 10 different options from 3 makers, only to have the rug pulled out from under you before you get to finalize the tune and use it. Varmint Knocker 50gr was the next most consistent, so I guess I'll give those one last shot.

FYI, the picture above with the dimple and thicker base edge is the OLD design. The picture with no dimple and the thin edge is the NEW design. I'm using the FX stock probe.
