NSA 12.5 Slug Pug

Sorry for the fuzzy picture but I think the "Pug" can be seen. Found this is a box of 12.5 NSA slugs today. The "Pug" has a normal appearing base but has about the top 1/3 of the slug missing, cut at about a 10-15 degree angle. Odd that it does have the hollow point present. It weighs 10.0 gr. whereas the others have consistently been 12.4 or 12.5 on my Lyman scale. Absolutely NOT a complaint, any process will have a few errors and these slugs shoot extremely well out of my Pulsar HP. Just interesting to note. I guess maybe slugs don't end the need to so some sorting.

When I extend my range from 48 yards to the higher yards 80 yards and beyond, My Vulcan #2 and my Uragan standard both in 177 caliber will taste the SLUGS , But for now just no real need to at 48 yards.

I do think the 177 Caliber will be a great shooting slug caliber, Flat super fast shooting slug,, I think it will be much more stable near or maybe a little above the speed of sound than the bigger 22,25 and 30 slugs...

Those are from when the machine runs out of wire, we try to catch them but sometimes they will make it past us. When it runs out of wire the last slug made will not be long enough to make a complete slug. We are talking about running out of wire in 17 cal about every 60-70k bullets we make and only if we miss it. Don't think I would bother sorting with that kind of a percentage.

I found one out of several thousand rounds as well. So, me thinks they do very well so really no need o sort..

I agree with "me thinks they do very well" 100%. I stated above, not a complaint. I like them and will continue to shoot them. As to "so really no need (t)o sort", I'd say that is dependent on the needs of the individual shooter. If you don't view it as helpful, don't do it. I won't be sorting them either because as you note they "do very well". Others might think they don't want to take the chance on a miss or a wound based on their particular use. My view and/or yours doesn't apply to everyone.

Completely understood. As noted, I will continue to use your products as I view them as excellent performers. Even better relatively in recent times due to the lower cost per volume and I understand that this is possible for the consumer due to your ability to produce in volume. I was just noting an occurence. But thanks for the detail on how much and why.

I have not had any bad ones that I’ve known of? But the pulsar hp likes them a lot both on hi and mid power. I have put over 3500 slugs and pellets since I got the gun just less than a month ago and last week I received 1600 more from nsa. I shoot daily and I’ll be sure to inspect them with my reading glasses.

Glad you mentioned that. Mine shoots them the same (very well) on high power but I haven't tried them on mid power. Might be an interesting comparison as to ACCURACY at each velocity-have you done that? The reason I haven't shot them on mid power might be an error in thinking on my part-is there an advantage to the slug over a pellet for lower velocity (closer??) shooting? I jumped to "no" but could be wrong.

The [email protected] not try the 15 on medium. The 12.5@990 on hi but I didn’t chrony them on medium, but in calmer conditions I mainly shoot them on medium and they are very accurate! And also I get a lot more shots. My best guess on medium with the 12.5 around 900 because of the poi was the same as the 15 on high. Also the are very effective on pests and perform well, on birds is the only game so far until squirrel season opens.

As to the 12.5's, more shots from HI to Med would be expected. How about the actual ACCURACY from Hi to Med power levels with the 12.5's? You state VERY ACCURATE at Med but mine is VERY ACCURATE at Hi. Was there any falloff (or gain) in accuracy from Hi to Med power and was there more (or less) wind drift at that lower power level?
