Now This Really Is Worrying...

According to today's Ammoland Shooting Sports News Service, the proposed new Assault Weapons Ban For Pistols And Shotguns bill even takes aim at airguns!

Apparently this bill - the Assault Weapons Ban of 2018 (H.R.5087) - is co-sponsored by 150 Democrats. Among its provisions is said to be the following:

'The bill would label any pellet fired from a pellet gun with more than 4oz of air “a rocket.” It would further ban any air gun with more than 4oz of air as an assault weapon.'

Rockets are, of course, banned...

Here's a link to the story. https://www.ammoland.com/2018/02/new-assault-weapons-ban-pistols-shotguns/#ixzz58QtgkkmV

I've not had time to research this further, but it certainly sounds frightening.

How in the heck would they figure this out??? For a PCP gun, it doesn't take the full volume of the air reservoir to propel the pellet. My break barrel's compression chamber holds well under 4 ounces with the piston pulled all the way back but the pellet doesn't start "propelling" until the piston has compressed the air to a minuscule amount of volume. This is the dumbest thing I've heard lately. These people are truly NUTS!

The left keeps saying assault weapons are battlefield implements and don't belong in our communities. Then why is it that every police agency from the largest to the smallest, and their security details have assault weapons in their inventory? I guess only government employees are entitled to have the best weapons available to defend themselves.

I've been contacted directly by two trustworthy people who say they have searched the bill and cannot find the stuff about airguns quoted by Ammoland.

Our guess is that maybe there's been a change in the proposed bill and Ammoland saw an earlier version with the airgun stuff being dropped by today's public version.

So this may have been a false alarm. (I hope).

Apologies to those whose blood pressure has been raised unnecessarily - including mine!!!

I didn't see it initially so I search for "airgun" then "air" and "pellet". Not sure if my cache is older than others but I can read it clear as day.

"It looks like Gilliam might be right. The bill would label any pellet fired from a pellet gun with more than 4oz of air “a rocket.” It would further ban any air gun with more than 4oz of air as an assault weapon. This bill goes further than any other anti-gun bill ever proposed."

I think it's a misquote. The bill does define what would be banned rockets, but the 4oz refers to the amount of combustible fuel not "air". Nothing at all about pellets.
page 14 line 23
"The term ‘rocket’ means any simple or complex tube like device containing combustibles that on being ignited liberate gases whose action propels the tube through the air and has a propellant charge of not more than 4 ounces."

False Alarm.

There are a couple of issues here. Let's be honest. This bill hasn't got a chance. It's merely virtue signaling by a bunch of long time anti-gunners.

However, the fact that they got it this far is a big deal. What you all should be doing is figuring out how to counteract the anti-gun narrative. Introduce young people to the sport of shooting. I can tell you I've NEVER met a boy that didn't like to shoot. If you're a hunter, explain ethical hunting to people you know. Be willing to talk to people who don't think like you. Be persuasive. Show all the good things that shooting and the activities surrounding it can provide. Concentration. Physical skill. Perseverance. If you hunt, feed people.

Letting the "them or us" narrative gain strength hurts us all. We is a lot stronger than I.

In most parts of the US, it's better not to vote Democrat. Often it's better to vote independent. Remember that the big parties are all run by the people that want to control you. They can't control you when you're armed, and they know it.

I would rather discuss airguns, but...

I am a former firearm owner who, for the most part, dropped out of powderburners many massacres ago. I could no longer justify the unrestricted ownership of these inherently dangerous objects, nor tolerate the bizarre justifications of those who support it. The present laws are allowing immature and unstable and paranoid people to legally purchase weapons capable of killing innocents and children with extreme efficiency.

Here's the reference from H.R.5087:

“(43) The term ‘rocket’ means any simple or complex tubelike device containing combustibles that on being ignited liberate gases whose action propels the tube through the air and has a propellant charge of not more than 4 ounces."

Nothing to do with airguns at all. Perhaps Mr Archer should have researched further before spreading this "fake news".

DO NOT EVER TAKE A STAND OF NOT A CHANCE/NEVER GOING TO PASS.
The left laughed at Trump running for office. Some dared Trump to run, said it was impossible. They are not laughing now.
Contact your congress person, tell them to vote NO! Let`s not take this bill lightly.
It is better to let your rep know you are watching them, than to be quiet. Quiet means nobody cares.
(43) The term 'rocket', can be changed. NEVER TRUST them.
