Nova Liberty reg adjustment direction

Blue, what is your goal? You were tryin to get the 18s to 900. Now your working with 25's. Haven't seen too much luck with 25's in the nova. 21 grain cudas and 18 jsb. Ultimately, you want to back off the hammer spring 3 to 5% off max velocity for best efficiency. If you're speed is too low at that setting, bump the reg, find max and back it off 3 to 5%

RJ,

Ok wow great info, I am probable going to end up with the 18's or the H&n's but right now I want to learn how to tune with a regulator for max efficiency. I have not owned a gun with a reg before and love to experiment with performance. I want to see what the max energy is then back it off and go for consistent power and accuracy. I have a 25 marauder that I might get a reg for and I also have an AAS410 that has been great from the start. Any advise you could share is very much appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Jim

Well, I suggest finding out which pellet your gun prefers first. And then tune it to that pellet. If you set it up to shoot the 21's at 900 its going to push the 18's too fast. A general rule is 880 to 900 fps. Pushing them faster accuracy starts to fall off. There are exceptions....but start there. Accuracy always wins over power. Before testing for accuracy, scrub that barrel with a brass brush. You've been pushing them pretty fast and i can almost guarantee you have some leading in the barrel. Mine does when pushed to hard and accuracy suffers.

I would leave the AA as is. You can reg it...but not that easy to tune afterwards. Mrod all the way. Huma reg, aftermarket valve and lightweight hammer. You can tune that one from mild to wild.

Also you mentioned you want to tune for efficiency, that’s a different tune that for power, and you started by increasing the reg pressure. I agree 100% with Rj, find your pellet, then start tuning. Also it depends for your application.

I’ve seen almost everyone that gets the Liberty, at least in the forum, wanting more power. Have you seen my video on the shotstring? I don’t know if I’ll change the setting on mine. I’m having really good speed as is and shot count. My application will be hunting, if you are plinking then at what distance you want to plink? Some pellets will do better beyond 50 yards than others and past 50 yards you will need the power increase, but for example I know that the CPHP suffer in accuracy if pushed too fast. Slugs on the other hand needs to pused fast,at around 900.

Hope this helps, there are a lot of variables here, and that’s what makes this interesting, everyone has a different goal, find yours and have fun trying to achieve the best results.

You are turning the reg adjuster the right way, but after so much you are just wasting air.. That is why no increase in fps ... Adjust the hammer spring until no more increase and then take out a thin shim to back it down.. After that adjust your reg to the pellet ..

He.actually lost 150 fps by turning it up. Not enough hammer energy to open the valve at the higher pressure.

Ok guys,

I have the reg set back at factory position, I have shimmed the hammer spring to the max and then removed one small shim. I drilled the barrel transfer port to 3/16 and polished , I removed the hammer spring and hammer and got all the crap grease out and polished the hammer and oiled the hammer and greased the spring. I also cleaned and smoothed out the sear a little bit. I used blue lock tight on all the screws that the assembly diagram listed. I have about fifteen different pellets to try out, now if the weather cooperates I should be set to start. One more thing does anyone know where we can get the o rings for this gun, I can find the right size but the hardness is wrong.

Thank you,

Jim

You would have to test with stock off, or drill through stock to accommodate guage. Most guys running a guage can machine a part at their shop. Some are machining larger plenums with threads to fit a guage.

You can get a close estimate by shooting a string of the same pellets & watching your chrony for the drop off, then read your tube pressure. If your slinging the 14's @ 990 your probably around 2600, so start above that. Try starting at a fill of 2900 and shoot 2 mags or so. Give the same recovery time between shots (15 sec) check reservoir pressure after every 2 shots. You'll know when you drop off the reg. That will put you close.

Don't forget, they need a little break in time, some will drop "fps" without doing anything, and they seem to be tight strung. If your heavy pellets have a larger head size, they will be disproportionately slower. They seem to favor smaller head size. Pull your barrel and do a push test with some different head sized pellets. You'll really feel the difference. Good luck Buttercup ahhhh, I mean Bluecup.
