Would like to have some sort of notification of modification of posts. IE, deleting, editing, etc. On some boards, it is a courtesy for some sort of notification to be sent. I dislike reading a thread I know I was in, then my post gone. I think I am going nuts! Then I step back, use another device to check the same threads and I still do not see my post. So I start thinking I hit PREVIEW and then left the page without hitting submit.

Not the case. In fact, my post shows back up hours later in the thread. I really dislike this. Questioning my sanity is not something I like to do. It takes up too much of my time if I have to question myself at every turn. My daily activities and endeavors rely on my solid decisions and attention to detail without question.

If a post needs to be edited for being OFF TOPIC, then pm me and I can either edit it or you can, just let me know. As a User, I can’t DELETE my posts either. That is a little annoying, especially if there happens to be a double post. I can only edit it at that point.

Not my board, I can only give you feedback as to what my observations are.

Also, Who is MODERATOR? is it another screen name here? Or what? On most boards the ‘mods’ are actually a user with the title of Moderator and or they are a “BOLD” and or colored username.

For being a relatively new member, you certainly have a lot to say about how we should run the forum. You’ll just have to accept the fact that AGN is different from the “other” forums, and we will operate differently.

Our moderators are anonymous so that they do not receive any criticism, judgement, or special treatment.

I reviewed two of your replies which were modified by a moderator. Both were off topic: something about a picture of a child being shot with a tranquilizer, and pictures of your pickup truck.

    Please revisit rule #1

    1. Before you post or reply, ask yourself, “Is my post going to be: constructive, insightful, or helpful in advancing the airgun community?”

    Thank you

The tranquilizer post was on par with what I was saying. Would be nice if FX got into that market. The Pic was from the article linked. That along the same lines as a Pharmaceutical company getting into the ‘dart’ industry. If FX had an ALL iN ONE solution, like the IMPACT with the dart feature. Also the pic was humorous. Was attempting to add some levity to the board.

The picture of my truck it TEDS thread saying it was HIS HOME was making conversation. In his videos in the past he was driving a white tacoma. I was asking if he still had his. At the same time, expressing that I had one too and use mine as our (family) hunting platform. In his videos I have seen him do similar (use it as a shooting platform) and was attempting to find a common ground for conversation and again to LIFT the seriousness from the tone of the thread. You do not have an OFF TOPIC section of this board for idle chit chat.

    MODS are anon. OK…

As for being a NEW GUY to this board. Yes, I am. However, I am not a troll and some of the things I have been suggesting are what make most other forums flow nicely. You folks flipped the script on the way most people are used to seeing a board run and it takes time for people to get used to it. I am and have been a part of some very successful communities in all walks of life with very different minded individuals. Similarities in how all the boards were run and with normal statistics and features available to the users was pretty streamlined over the whole board.

The specific post I was more concerned about and thus the starting of this thread was my post #18192 http://airgunnation.dev/topic/interesting-results-comparing-2-different-length-ldcs/#post-18192 . I feel the videos were adding to the supporting FACTS of the issue he was having and some additional insight to others that might have been reading the thread. More trying to help him move through “The Scientific Method” – Hypothesis .

I feel I adhered to the rule you cited. Adding facts to the conversation, at the same time levity. When people see a common ground in a conversation or something of interest, they tend to jump in the conversation and add more to it. If some of the more personal things like vehicles we use, knives, animal tranquilization and Air Guns used to tranq them, on our AirGun endeavors are off topic, buy all means I will not mention them anymore.

As for the DELETING MY OWN POSTS feature. This is the first board I have been on that I am unable to do so. Please do not feel I am trying to compare this board to any other airgun board either. I am on most of them and do not hide behind many screen names. I am skygear, the one and only.

I am giving you forum feedback and some of the other users have expressed some of the similar ideas. Others just do not realize they are missing a few functions and features until they do things like double post. Some of the user stats were mentioned previously also.

Tapatalk plugin. Well, again, lots of other boards use it,, and for the mobile experience it is a beautifully simple interface with an app they already coded. I get my PMs, can easily subscribe to threads and other things. My notifications come up on my phone alerting me to reply and messages etc. If adds are the issue and why you do not want to use the extension, well, tapatalk also displays ads within the app for boards that have them if you set it up in the settings.

I run boards, and have for many years. I was more trying to help you folks be successful with constructive criticism and letting you know of some of the features and courtesies that other boards have or are doing. When boards are in their infancy, sometimes it takes someone on the outside to assist in the progression of the board with feedback.

Look at this from a users perspective. You post something, come back to it another day, and it is modified or gone. Might not be able to remember what you had written there either. With a PM or infraction for being OFF TOPIC one would be able to see the infringing post and correct themselves accordingly as a MOD or ADMIN would have already deleted or modified the post.

I am researching tapatalk.  I will implement it if it works with our software, and can also somehow accommodate the sponsors of this forum.  They pay for their ad exposure.  If tapatalk bypasses that, they would certainly not be pleased.

For sure. XDA-Developers uses it and I see ads all the time in it.

FYI – when I am browsing on my Android device using chrome, the thread sides are cropped and so are all the videos.

    Skygear,

Our moderators made a decision to remove some of your posts. They cited rule # 1
Before you post or reply, ask yourself, “Is my post going to be: constructive, insightful, or helpful in advancing the airgun community?”

    1. The picture of your pickup truck had absolutely nothing to do with the topic Ted started about how certain individuals have tried to infiltrate our forum, or how the forum is run.

    2. The picture you posted of the little girl getting tranquilized with a large dart (although humorous to some) was not humorous to the members that flagged your picture as inappropriate.

I stand behind the moderators decisions to hide those. And yes, you are correct, we do not have an “off topics” section.

     3. I did not get to see the video links that were removed. But the moderator cited that it was not related to airguns. Feel free to add the video links back into the LDC discussion. If they were insightful and helpful, then they should not have been removed.

    4. Early on we decided to only allow users to edit their posts for a limited amount of time. We will discuss the Pro’s & Con’s of allowing a complete deletion.

    5. As Ted stated we will look into Tapatalk.

    6. For some reasons the “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” has stopped working, we will look into this.

    7. I see several problem with a PM being sent to a user asking them to correct an infraction. What if they don’t respond? What if they don’t correct it accordingly? What if the user continues to disagree with the moderators decision? How many times should a moderator try to explain why they made a decision? How much time should a moderator spend going back and forth with the user? On and on.

Thank you for the constructive criticism.

“skygear”I just read your rebuttal and will respond after I cook breakfast and get our day started.

No need, skygear.  Just know that your words have been read and your ideas are being considered.  Some are things we had not thought about, and some are things that we deliberately omitted from our site (eg “Off Topic” forum).  So, the owner and the admin have both read your post.  That should be good enough.  Please leave it be.  ;)

And, please just dial it down a bit.  Your intentions have been good.  But, the Internet doesn’t always translate intentions very well.  We all need to “water down” our personalities a little, or the amount of communication errors would cripple any chance of a civilized discussion.  It’s just the way it is.  If we ever meet in person, you’ll find out that I am a very “colorful” fellow.  But, on the forums, I keep things easy-breezy.  I sacrifice a little ego to make sure my points are not derailed by miscommunication.

    7. In most of the scripted infraction systems, as soon as a Mod or admin warns or infracts a post, it is immediately quoted and pm’d to the user. The mod at that point edits the original post and all is well. Is is as fast as clicking the ‘infract’ button, asks if it is a point or warning, quick typed note to the user, then submit button. Then takes the mod back to the original post and they edit it. on some boards, in the infract screen, it has a place to edit the post on the same screen and then the mod is done.

I understand ted/ michael. I’m a very personable character as well. Internet does not translate tone, emotion, or intentions well at all.

“Michael”For being a relatively new member, you certainly have a lot to say about how we should run the forum. You’ll just have to accept the fact that AGN is different from the “other” forums, and we will operate differently.

I’m with skygear on being given a pm notice of a post being edited or removed and a quick warning as to why.  That would give the poster a limited amount of time to correct the error on their own.  That is only common courtesy that you advocate in posting here.  We all stray from time to time.  I was part of a group warning a while back about staying on topic and keep that warning in mind when posting.  You wouldn’t spank one of your kids without letting them know why they earned the punishment would you?

And maybe its just me but considering rule #1 that first sentence, “For being a relatively new member, you certainly have a lot to say about how we should run the forum.” seems a bit snippy to me.  I get that this is Teds forum, he makes or approves the rules and he hired you to take care of this for him.  Considering the rules you can edit your own post or delete my post.  You can even ban me from the forum if you so please.  A while back I took another members posting the wrong way and ended up deleting my own post.  I thought the member was being sarcastic but the problem was a language difference as he was from the other side of the pond.  I recognized my error and corrected it myself.  There’s nothing unmanly about admitting a mistake and attempting to make good on it.  And I am a founding member here, here from day1, and would like to remain a member but per the rules that is for you to decide.

Edit: I did not delete my post to the Englishman.  I began editing it prior to posting and cooled off a bit and saw the error of my way and removed anything that would have been offensive.
