Not What I Wanted But I'll Take It. AAA EVOL 30, First Kill.

I was waiting for some Eurasian Collared Doves to land on a tree branch at 62 yards away. This hen decided to walk into my shooting lane where I previously zeroed my EVOL 30 the other day so I made the decision to take a head shot. Granted, it was only 22 yards away but I'll take it. No, I don't eat them lol. They're pest to me and I shoot them every chance I get. Haven't shot a dove yet.

😐

I don’t know about that bird

but that is one sweet rig you’ve got there. From the DonnyFL moderator at the tip to the PRS stock at the tail, the scope on top and bipod underneath, I wouldn’t change a thing. That’s a beauty!

Stoti

Thanks Stoti. The DonnyFL Ronin really tames the pop of the .30 compared to the factory moderator and makes it backyard friendly. Not sure about the impact though lol. The only thing is that it's heavy. I want to order another Sumo for the Evol because the old one I have is for .22/.25cal. The Sumo is the same length and diameter but about half the weight compared to the Ronin. In regard to the PRS stock, I've always loved the looks and adjustability of the stock. The stock is heavy but it balances out the weight of the Evol not making it front heavy. I have another Accu-Tac bipod on the way but it's the newer model, WB-4. It's about the same specs as the BR-4 Gen2 but it has a wider base. Not as wide as the FC models which in my opinion is strictly for the bench but just wide enough.

When someone gives you a pitch right over the plate, a nice fat slow one...You swing. I don’t see how you could’ve possibly not sniped her. That’s a gift. Post a picture when you shoot another one of those big colorful roosters

First blood is sweet. Nicely done.

I had enough time to use my range finder and adjusted from my zero .2 mils up. It was a given. If I had missed, I could only blame myself lol because the gun is a laser. I might as well sell my airguns and dust off my shotguns, load them up with birdshot. In regards to the big colorful roosters, I haven't seen any in my yard lately. When I do bag one, I'll be sure to post it.

I am laughing out loud looking at your data. That bird was screwed!

you should be good out past 100 with that rig.

mike

You're right. That bird had no chance! I had a table, stool, bipod, and a rear bag to shoot off from. Perfect shooting position. The farthest I've shot my Evol to is 62 yards which is the tree I was waiting for the dove to land on. After zeroing it in and dialing the turrets to range, I was aiming at the tips of some thin tree branches nailing them. I didn't want to completely shoot the main branches off because the doves need somewhere to perch themselves on lol. I need some longer range to test this thing out. It sucks having a small yard.

I would bet that being able to shoot 62 yards in your yard, puts you somewhere around the 95th percentile of all air gunners. Certainly better than 90%.

Plus crazy chickens and ringneck doves sounds pretty good from here.

I only have 30 yards max in my yard to shoot. I live in a cul-de-sac at the end with thick jungle sloping downhill with a valley and mountains for miles. Today, I'm actually gearing up to cut through the jungle to make at least 50 yards or more. Here's the tree behind my house surrounded by thick jungle.

That was nice first trophy! Are you using 45 grain pellets or some type of slugs shooting at around 880 fps?

Thank you. Ammo used was JSB 44.75gr. at 888 fps out of the box. I have some NSA sampler slugs coming in and will tune for those when time permits. I also have some JSB 50gr. that I haven't tried yet and some Predator Polymags on the way. When I ran it through the chronograph, I was using the factory moderator. I have the DonnyFL Ronin on it now but I haven't ran it through the chrony to see if there's an increase or decrease in fps.

Beautiful shooting, and with a 44.75gr .30 cal no less! So why is her head even still attached?

Thanks. It's 7.62, not 7.62x51 lol. When you shoot chickens in the head with diabolo pellets, the aftermath is not as gory. Sometimes, the entry wound is hard to find on the head. They are like those self healing targets. I'll admit, I didn't really examine the wound but I know for sure I was aiming for the head. After the shot, I just plopped the bird down quickly for a photo op.

very nice setup you have there !

let us know when you get the sumo and compare the differences of report reduction.....

i have a .30 uragan with the ronin and you are correct about the weight.

thanks

Looks like you have some work ahead of you clearing that vegetation.

I just placed the order. We'll see if I'm sacrificing decibel levels for weight by going with the Sumo. I can't imagine the Emperor being on the end of it considering how much that thing weighs.
