Drums, The only tool I know of to accurately check pellet head size is the " Pelletgage" (do a google search) Or contact Baker Airguns as they have them in stock, It is mfg. by a guy here on the forums and is accurate to ten microns. For what it's worth I shoot field target and some bench rest and only shoot out to 55 yards with .177 cal. What I have done is weight and head sized the ones I shoot tournaments with but I only head size the ones I practice with as I see VERY little difference in a few tenth's of a grain for 55 yards.
On the other hand if I was shooting bench rest at 100 yards or so (with a larger Caliber ) I believe it would be very important to do every thing possible to have the best ammo I could have. I feel that our guns are only limited by the ammo that is available, J.S.B may be the best you can buy but as you have found out, THEY AINT PERFECT!! by any means!! by sorting I have all but eliminated "FLYERS" from my shooting. It'a very boring job but in my estimation well worth it !! Good luck!! J.L.
