Noobie Questions and Answers

Soo True

My PCP journey/addiction started when a friend gave me his Gauntlet 177 for the weekend to try out. That quickly turned into an Umarex Origin purchased 2 weeks later on Black Friday then a Tanto and adapter from DonnyFl for the backyard. Two weeks later bought a Kral Puncher Breaker 22 from Troy Hammer and while waiting on the Puncher I bought a Benjamin Cayden which is just awesome. Back to DonnyFl for a Sumo for the Cayden. Now I need a compressor and this is after buying a cheap Amazon handpump to replace the Umarex hand pump that had to be rebuilt after 3 fills and still doesn't work. Finally the Puncher Breaker arrives now I need more pellets and another scope and rings. I have officially jumped into the Rabbit Hole head first 4 months = 3 guns, 3 optics and rings, a Tanto, a Sumo and a compressor.

We are all living out the story... :)

The line about, 'Think I have too many gun", would be best answered, "Stop thinking".

OK

Reading this laughing out loud as I patiently wait on the FX Bobcat .25 to arrive at my buisness..Can't let the wife know that I just dropped over 1k on more air gun stuff.

My first was a daisy lever action and a break barrel .177 when I was a kid. Now I'm 41 got a Benjamin Bulldog last year. Dry fired it once and quickly realized I can't be shooting that inside or in the city.. man its impressive...then a tricked out P-Rod to plink and practice with then Donny FL gear for everything...and power springs and scopes and rebuild kits...2 hand pumps 1 compressor a fill station, now in the market for a 90-100 cft tank.....

Only one my wife has seen is the bulldog all tricked out in a custom case and she almost fell over. She main throw an aneurysm when the FX dreamline tac shows up..maybe I can hide it in her shoe closet

Thanks for the good laugh and 100% accuracy

I was perusing some groups and kept coming across the same 'ol questions from noobies, so thought I would share my wisdom here:

What is the best gun?
Best for what?
Get the one you want, the one that's best for you.
But I can get a cheap one?
Buy it, then you will own that one, and later, a mid-level one, then the one you really want. (tip: this will cost you more)
What is the best gun I can get for $XX?
Google.
But I don't know which guns are best at a given price range?
Youtube. Then ask about the specific one you want, in a forum.
What is the best pellet?
Shoot your gun till you find out. Then tell us.
What is the best FPS?
830 - 1,100 FPS. It depends on your projectile; slugs faster, pellets slower, it splits at about the middle velocity.
Yes, but what is the best FPS for my gun?
Adjust, if it gets better keep going till it gets worse, then stop.
If it gets worse, adjust the other way.
If adjustment either way doesn't help, get another gun- or, consider getting some "professional" help...

I want to stock up on pellets; how many pellets are too many?

One million, that would be my limit.

I am just going to stick to springers.
Coward.
I'm not really sure whether if I want to get into this hobby, I mean the cost, etc?
Nobody else was either, but here we are...
Should I buy a compressor?
Yes.
But, I have a hand pump?
Then, you'll eventually own both.
Should I buy a tank?
Yes.
But I have a compressor?
Then, you'll eventually own both.
Why should I go PCP?
Because your credit card says so, and your marriage isn't working anyway...
I don't have a wife.
Then, you don't need a compressor, that hand pump should be no problem for you...
How do I justify my gun(s) to my wife?
Lie.
But I don't lie?
Liar.
I think I may have too many guns?
See, now you are lying to yourself.
What do I tell my wife when my new gun arrives?
"I shipped this old thing in for repairs; wow, they really cleaned it up as it looks new! I sure hope they fixed it!"
What do I tell my wife when the pellet orders keep coming in?
"This is the 3rd time they sent me the wrong ones! I'm just gonna send them back again and get a refund!"
My wife doesn't believe my shipment stories, now what do I do?
Ship it to your work, then sneak it into the garage when she's not looking.

So far, I'm still married.
Fantastic! I think I asked all these questions.

Funny stuff and mostly true...! I will say that I give noobs a little more leeway. Several years back, I decided I wanted a burning laser. However, I didnt want to pay for a burning laser. So I hopped on a laser forum to learn how to build one. Any 'hobby' forum will have the extreme end of the spectrum on it with people who are very deep in.

I quickly learned on this laser forum that not only did I not know what I wanted to know, but I didnt even know what I didnt know. I tried to search but didnt know the keywords or terminology used in that world. I ended up asking some questions and was met with 'search is your friend'. I finally had someone reach out who was helpful and with that guidance, I was able to build my laser.

Taking that experience back to airgun forums, I can see how that someone who is brand new can come in and just be totally lost and not even know enough to ask the right questions. What does irritate me is when that a noob comes in, gets very helpful information and still disregards it and then ends up with an unsatisfactory airgun experience and therefore deems all airguns as POS toys.

Again, I realize the OP was humor, but this seemed like a fitting place to post.

Actually, this was my journey :)

Took me longer to get here but I'm there. 3 airguns, 2 scopes, 2 red dots, 1 carbon fiber tank and looking at a DonnyFl Tanto. I got the Hatsan Bully & Bullboss both in .25 and also an AEA HP SS .30 caliber.
