Nomad 2, stay on! dang you

so, I got a brand new Nomad 2 and it takes about 5 tries (of mashing the on button) to get it to stay pumping and not quit after 3 seconds... I finger flicked the top gauge a few times and moved the dial from 3000 to 2000 and back again to "wake" it up. Either that some what works or its just a coincidence that it will hold to pumping if I lower the psi then ramp it up by turning the guage knob. Should I call the number in the instructions? call Pyramid air and ask? or hope it comes out of adolescents and knows to "go" when I tell it to. Thanks for any help, Dean

now the garage temp is around 46 degrees... would temp have an affect on it?

In the telco industry they call this a "high open short". As temperature increases metal expands, as it decreases, metal contracts. This is true for many substances. If it works properly in low temperature but fails to function without tapping and jiggling the unit there is a strong probability you have loose wiring. The open bleed until a certain temperature is reached likely works because if the compressor isn't actually compressing the current draw is low.

Based on the data presented, Jim is correct, and you should return the unit for repair. Eventually assuming enough arcing carbon will build up and the work-around solution proposed will no longer function. You may be out of warranty at this point.

Happy Friday and hope this helped.

I did a request to return the Nomad 2 along with the basic comments here (shortened) so I'll wait until Monday to hear back if I get the RMA request approved or they got another "real fix". Dean

update: new compressor has arrived alas there is 2 inches of snow on the ground and blowing 15mph at 35 degrees in central NC so will wait until Sunday to see how this new one is. BTW before I shipped the suspected bad one back I warmed it up to 75 degree and same issue. I also opened the bottom bleed valve and what do you know same issue only shorter duration so it was getting worse by the day. Dean
