Can someone tell me if one can purchase scope rings that will not leave marks on a rifle scope? This is specifically aimed at the 30 day return policy of Optics Planet.

Quality rings does not leave any marks. You are not supposed to tighten down the rings enough to be able to leave marks. You could always put some masking tape or similar around the tube or in the rings if you are worried bout marks?

If testing them on a pcp just don't torque them down tight during your test period. But it's true that high quality rings won't leave marks if you are careful.

Only excess screw torque on the top straps will damage a scope tube. The only issues I've ever had was with the BKL two piece double strap mounts because I found that 15 in/lbs of torque on the ends of those narrow straps will deform a Vortex Diamondback scope tube.
Never had the same problem with the BKL one piece mount and their wider top straps using the same torque. No issues with the cheap UTG mounts either with their 4 screws on the even wider top straps when torqued to 15 in/lbs. I do have to admit however that to keep the scope in place in the rings of a BKL mount on my .177 R9 I had to add a layer of cloth electrical friction tape in the saddles.
