Nitrogen Tank Rental may have a problem

I may have a problem. I'm being billed $167.81 for cylinder rent and it appears that this is a MONTHLY charge. THAT AIN'T GOING TO FLY. This is PRAXAIR .

My understanding that the rental was a one time or at most annual fee. I'll check with then Monday but I would like to hear from others who are using nitrogen to get some ammo to back up my objection to this fee when I speak to them on Monday. That would would work out to $2000 just for the tank rental plus the gas. Might be $2500 with a couple tank swaps . Crap sakes in two years I'd have enough money invested to buy the best darned compressor in the world for that kind of money.

You just can never win can ya ????

What are you other guys paying approximately for those 6000 psi tanks Thanks in advance John Heckman

Hey blubbering

Don't sweat it, the welding company I rent from here in Texas uses praxair filled tanks and mine cost$169.00 per year plus the nitro I use. It did however used to be cheaper. It's the most convenient fill systems I have ever used. I download to my carbon tank then from my carbon tank to my guns.

I have a fill whip on the nitro tank with a gauge, but no reg, and I wouldn't suggest filling directly to a gun with this set up, but to a storage tank like a scuba bottle or carbon tank, works great, just pay attention to what you are doing, no double guaged regulator system needed. My gauge fill whip assembly cost 190.00

I’m set up and have been using it for months. The salesman said additionally I would not be charged a rental fee. Last month I got a bill from the company for a tank rental which I paid assuming it was “ caught” and I paid it assuming it was a annual fee. Then I got another bill today with a statement that it was from 11/19 to 12/19. So it appears it’s a monthly charge. Hopefully a call Monday will straighten it out

let you know

Wow , You guys have it made, About eight years ago I looked into 6000 Nitro tanks , Here in Odessa, Texas it was crazy money, I do not remember the exact amounts but it was like 250 a month rental , 250 refill first of each month, If you needed it or not, Plus truck and set up fee each month 175. Total due each month 675 dollars

or I could fill my great white tank for 45 bucks normal air,

I bought a Sheldon compressor .

Ok. Here is what I’ve learned to date . This might be important to know. All of the prices seem arbitrary and negotiable.

There is a fee for the gas. For a 6000 psi tank of pure nitrogen in the largest tank it should be $250 give or take. Not more .

Then there is the rent or lease of the tank and there is a big difference here. They have me on a daily rental of $4.76 DAILY

What needs to happen is to change over to a annual LEASE which should be about $100 A YEAR

A fellow would only rent if he was using the tank for a VERY short time Someone may have just made a mistake on my billing We will see.

This is one of those deals that you must know what you are looking to do and then understand that you have to get quotes from several gas dealers if you can.

Last time I changed cylinders I paid under $100 which is great. If they can lease me the tank for a year around $100 I’ll be in the high clover.

Bottom line. Shop around and talk nice to the sales people. Know the competitors prices and negotiate.

i’ll be back with the final outcome. Both places I’ve talked to admit that there is considerable flexibility in the prices. Good luck to you other guys hope this sheds some light on this stuff Try to find some one who is gun friendly to talk to and explain what you are doing and maybe show pictures. Might save you lots of money. Hope so

At the very least I learned that the words LEASE and RENT while they are synonymous to me they are not to they guys writing contracts on this equipment. Lease don’t rent maybe the short of it 😀

After some negotiations praxair agreed to an annual lease of $175 a year rather then the daily rental of $4.75. Giving me credit for what I paid . That’s all good

What I have learned is there appears to all manor of room to negotiate and it seems like things are very arbitrary store to store company to company. With the possibility of things changing yearly if not monthly

I’ve decided to continue with the nitrogen having had such a lousy time with the compressor. I did get the compressor fixed and plan to hang onto it since there seems to be no stability in the nitrogen gas market .

I don’t care how you cut it getting air and pellets or slugs is getting pricier

I’m an old guy and won’t be doing this for ever but if I was younger I’d probably buy a Bauer compressor and a ton of pellets . Figuring at some point lead pellets will be either unavailable or outrageously expensive.

Good luck to you young guys. Shooting to me seems like it will be limited to video games which may or not be a bad thing I guess we go with the flow or try to swim against the current.

We definitely need to keep each other informed on what we are being charged . Useful information for purposes of negotiating.

I figure compressors are going to average a couple hundred a year to buy and to maintain so nitrogen is still a viable option . Plus the advantage of being dry and easy ( once you get set up)

I was told $63.00 per year for the a 6000psi tank rental, $185 to fill it, $24 delivery at one local company. The other company, quoted me $690 per year rental, $350 to fill it, $25 delivery fee. Needless to say I’m going with the first company. That said I haven’t finalized the deal yet. I will let you know if company #1 stands by what they quoted me. These companies are within 50 miles of each other. I am astounded at the difference in the prices quoted me.

It does seem to be very arbitrary . I don't think those 6000 psi tanks are in common use. Always a special order.

Another thing I'm going to do is to take my gauges with me and check to see that the tank is completely filled. Essentially you are using the tank from 6000 psi down to around 3000 psi and it the tank isn't full you're not getting your money's worth.

I went into my local AIRGAS dealer and they told me that the tanks are crazy heavy and hard to move. They said they only do a daily rental of $4. They said I also need a special valve? How heavy actually are the tanks?

This may help on size and weight of various tanks.
