nitro piston elite vs. nitro piston 2 ?

does anyone know what the difference between the nitro piston 2 , and the newer nitro piston elite is ? i've been all over crosman's site , but found no answer. i understand the difference between the silver and platinum loudness control arrangements, but other than that - the nitro-piston elite and the nitro piston 2 black thumbhole synth stock .22 rifles seem to have the same parts and same part number for that gas ram.....idk...

Mod edit: moved to Springers, Pumpers, CO2 and Vintage

I couldn't figure out the difference either, So I went to the Youtube reviews. Despite the claims of an extra 50 FPS in the Elite, the crony numbers across the Crosman line were identical. I was considering a Vaporizer or Valiant, So I bought a Prowler and did the trigger bearing mod and I'll be ordering a higher magnification scope with the money saved. I'm happy so far, but it took nearly 700 shots before I was grouping well. Given the 19 FPE power level, I happy with a quarter size @ 20yards. Not quite German level groups, but I'm happy.

I had to look through my old data. The original Benjamin NP (Regal II NP version 1) in .22 caliber gave me 15.41 FPE, and in a very similar Benjamin Trail gave me 17.69 FPE with the NP2 piston. The velocity difference between the original NP, versus the NP2 was almost exactly 50 FPS in .22 caliber with the H&N Field Target Trophy pellet. I look forward to seeing what is REALLY produced with the new piston. Of other note, the original NP kept fairly flat velocities when fired back to back, the NP2 had a modest shot to shot increase in velocity when fired back to back. I would be interested in seeing what the new NP family produces. The NP2 powered Benjamin Trail .22 produced dime size groups for me at 25 meters, once it was fully broke in (ballpark 700-1000 rounds). The original NP powered Benjamin Regal II air rifle gave similar results in terms of accuracy. For the record, both of these air rifles had the trigger group upgraded for enhanced feel.

The Crosman site made it hard to use their internal search mechanism to find the Prowler (specify rifle/.22 cal/NP-NP2-Spring as the power plant), which leads me to believe it is a sub version of their main action in a different stock, so little data is available for the prowler (Much like the Regal II was a sub model made for Big 5 Sports). In classical "springer fashion" it is claimed to have 21 FPE energy; and you observed 19FPE. This is so very typical of the break barrel industry. I like the contouring on the synthetic stock. And it is available from WalMart for 99 bucks; this represents a very decent value.

the fully shouded barreled prowlers with the thicker, super-solid plastic stocks were totally fun for me...i guess they were the older versions. .177 was actually too hot, but those silver jet look-alike things from h&n really made a huge difference. 900 fps with 12 grainers - about a quarter groups at 60+ yards. it was cool (that one actually had plastic muzzle break - like the titans now). i did the radio control car bearing trick, but it was too sensitive. there's also a bushing for those same bearings that are 1mm less in height, not quite as good because it's not actually a roller bearing - but much better than the dang gun going off and scaring me before i'm ready....i hate that crap.....i have friends that love those 'c'-hair triggers, but not for me. ...the older version .22 prowler ; however, much more fun ! it was really consistent 725-730 fps with premiers and cloverleafed with same pellets at 25 yards. i kept it in the truck because i got for $60 and there just wasnt much that could mess it up bouncing around in there - and i try to have a loaner on hand when i am taking in an airgun for repairs. (i miss that thing, now that i think of it.) i even tried a np2 ram in it - both ways, inverted and straight up - but there was not enough gain in velocity too give up how smooth and quiet the loaner was. there's not much else to do on these prowler-types but to finagle the trigger and hone the tube (cross-hatching with slow break hone, long complete strokes in and out).....and i had to file down the trigger guard where the moldings came together. .........what sux is , those are chinese barrels. if you get a good one, it's great ! if you dont, exchange asap. problem is that you wont really know for sure until you season the barrel up by shooting about a half tin of walmart premiers thru it , and then (wish they still made the .22 premiers in the 625 box, which would best) using some ftt's or jsb's.....those .22 benjamin destroyers work well too....as long as each pellet fits in the breech the way, the same tightness - you'll find out best. ... the np2 guns have american barrels and cost twice as much from crosman parts dept. but they are great - i just had one lathed down to 7/16" od so that it would fit onto the pcp carbines i make, and the 2400kt co2 types.... you know what ? outta all the different crosman/benji gas ram rifles i have messed with - the .22 benjamin nps special edition was the best ! even the guys at crosman cust serv tell me good things about theirs .... i have had two of them go thru my hands....had the smaller prowler stock - the one where you can feel the cocking arm as you hold the forearm...had 3-9x40ao cp mildot scopes...american barrels....and shot a super consistent 760 fps with good premiers and accurate with the same...very easy to cock and shoot and quiet. they had els gas rams....obsolete part now....closest thing you can get is a ram for .22 benjamin rushmoore ....cbt trigger (i think that has an els part number, too).... check the nps out as compared to np2 :

....the benjamin rushmoore was made for one year (only for academy sports, and maybe big 5, or another retailer)....i snatched up 5-6 of these as they went on clearance here...it was my second favorite of the crosman corp gas ram rifles : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1FXVyENusM

.........i wrote them the same night i asked yall....i used to be an authorize repair center for them. i reckon they have about 15 different struts to order - i know of three diffeent rams that are for different variations of the .22 benjamin titan alone... ....faghette about ittt... i dont seem to care anymore... here's the info (angel is pretty cool - i wish we could help help her make some kind of chart or something for the different types of rams and suppressors) ::

Paul,

Our Nitro Piston Elite is the next generation gas piston that deliverys 15% more speed, 35% more power and 2x the accuracy than standard pistons. These models also feature reduced cocking force and reduced friction and vibration for a smoother shot. The new Nitro Piston Elite feature the SBD technology that offers 3 different levels of sound suppression.

If you have a copy of our 2018 catalog, there is a breakdown of the sliver, gold and platinum SBD on page 10.

Regards,
Angel
