Nitro Piston/Break Barrel Design

New to air rifles with Gamo Swarm Maxxim. Wondering why break barrel is necessary to cock the rifle? Is it because it’s the easiest or only way to get enough leverage to set it? Not an engineer at all, but can it be designed with a lever on side or bottom of rifle to cock the piston? Right handed shooter can cock it using left hand on a foregrip and butt pressed against shoulder for leverage instead of having to break barrel every time? Would speed up second shot process almost like a shotgun? I’m sure there are engineering/physics laws im not considering, but seems possible and would be a sick design for powerful non pcp air rifle?

Hatsan makes a multi shot underlever springer called the Proxima. I posted a picture below. This and the Swarm are the only current production multi shot spring/gas a piston air guns that I’m aware of. Crosman was supposed to have one also in 2018 but it was never released. I don’t own the Proxima or the Swarm but i think I’d opt for the Hatsan over the Gamo if I was looking at either of these to buy
