Can the regulator be removed from Ninja Paintball tanks used by paintballers?

I've read that the little Carbon Wrap HPA tanks that paintballers use are regulated to about 800psi. Can the regulator be removed? Those tanks are for sale on Craigslist every day for less than $75 with a paintball gun, but they're useless for a PCP unless you can remove the regulator. Is there an easy, inexpensive way to retrofit a new valve onto one of those tanks?

The Ninja regulators are quite easy to change the output pressure. All that is needed as about a dozen belleville washers. There are lots of posts on GTA explaining the procedure.

To remove the regulator I kinda "wedge" the regulator in my vice so that is is "loose" but the foster fill and burst disk will prevent it from rotating. I then get a firm grip on the bottle and turn it. Some are tighter then others, but most should be easily removable unless some used a thread sealant.

I bought a second eBay 65.5 CF tank and I'm building it out as another fill station. When I picked it up from hydrotesting & filling I asked if anyone ever left old paintball tanks there and never retrieved them. One of the 'perks' of living in a high-poverty area is that people move around frequently and often abandon their possessions to "get out of Dodge" in a hurry. Indeed, they had a small steel 3000psi 48in^3 Empire Pure Energy tank that had been there for nearly 2 years. I offered them $25 and they took it. They even filled it for free. That's a shame because I'll need to figure out how to modify the regulator on it so I'll need to bleed the pressure to take it apart. It had two burst disks, one is 1800psi and the other is 5000psi. I think the 5000psi one is good, but not sure about the 1800psi one, I'll probably need to replace that with a higher rated one for PCP use. It still had nearly 2000psi in it after sitting for 18+ months. What do I need to buy to get this connected to my Marauder? I estimate that I should be able to get 1-2 fills at a lower pressure, but that's fine for taking it in the field with me. This is what it looks like:



Is this part of what I need?

Yes that is the fill adapter. Now you need to boost the regulator pressure with either belleville washers, or I think you can just make a spacer which would bypass the regulator all together and what ever is in the tank you would have at your foster. You will need to replace the 1.8K burst with a 4.5K one.

I have that same tank that I bumped my regulator up to 2100 psi for my disco. I get about 6 or 7 fills IIRC.

"ztirffritz"OK, so I found some options on-line for the burst disk, but when I add in shipping, the price jumps 3x. eg $4 for the burst disk, $12 for shipping...I think I might just spend the money for the Ninja 4500 PCP HPA valve so that I can just screw it into a fiber wrap tank when I can get my hands on one of those.

I actually found a 90ci CW tank that's only 1 year old for a good price and bought it. I ordered the regulator I linked above too. I ordered the burst disk that you link to also, but I may just leave that airtank as it is and use it with my paintball gun. I hadn't used it in years because my CO2 tank went out of date. Now I have an airtank that works with it. It's fun to shoot. I need to get some paintballs now...

find on ebay

Some of the tanks are 5/8 thread and others are 18mm. They will NOT interchange.

Just to add my two cents. I bought an ninja air tank and it was a 4500psi regulated to 900psi. After playing for a while I found the stock washers, 2 washers more and a new burst disk. I also added a new oring. And it know gives out 4500psi. I would not recomand doing this because of safety issues.
