nightforce nx8 4-32x50 thoughts

I have two of them and for my 58-year-old eyes it’s the best scope I’ve ever looked through. I came from having the SHV which was good but the NX8 is much clearer, zero stop instead of zero set and can be focused down to 10 yards. Before purchasing I went to bass pro shop and spent over an hour looking through all the different brands of scopes And the night force what is the clear winner to me.

It's good glass, but not as good as my 7-35 (I didn't buy it to compete with it though). When the moons if Jupiter were all visible a couple of months back, I could see them all with the ATACR, but not the NX8 lol

The reticles are fairly thin and hard to see at times with low mag settings. My illumination button is also in the process of getting swapped out for a new one, because it's near impossible to operate. The weight is pretty good for the capabilities, but I might have kept the March 3-24x50 that I replaced with it - had it have been MRAD instead of MOA, which I could not get used to with an airgun. Here they are for size comparison, mind you I had the sunshade in the ATACR:

What is the minimum (focus) distance with your ATACR?

It's an annoying question for me! I have 7 NF scopes currently, after siginificant testing of all of them in a line I can see (and so can others) that the NX8 4-32 has a better image than 2 of of my ATACRS, 7-35 SFP & 5-25 SFP & at least equals my 7-35 FFP.

But still all of them aren't as good optically as my 2 15-55 comp NF, this I MUST stress is just image quality, not tracking or build or anything else included in the comparrison.

I am waiting for the 56 objective NX8 to be released so I can try it against the others, the 20x NX8 however IMO is a terrible image, certainly the one I have anyways.

Airgun hobbyist, which Athlon were you referring too. I was considering up grading to an Athlon Ares BTR or the NX8 4-32. They are close in size, weight, and having illumination, however I am very fond of night forces moa reticle. I have not looked through either brand of scope and look forward to others chiming in. The price is twice the cost however in order to justify such an expense I will install using quick release rings as to use this scope on multiple rifles.

Cheers

@Houli it is the Athlon Helos 6-24×50 BTR. So the comparison may be apples to oranges in that respect. Not every scope is made perfect, and I did have to get the Athlon's parallax adjustment fixed under warranty. I subsequently found out is a common fault with them. I don't suspect that the Nightforce will have any of those issues.

@mtnGhost this is the most ingenious way to test scope clarity that I've had the pleasure to read about. This is a true long range clarity test; anything other than this from here on out would definitely be subjective!
