California Fish and Game CCR T14-264.5 Use of lights while hunting-Remainder of State. (There is a large portion of California that is closed to all night hunting)
(c) It is unlawful to use or possess night vision equipment to assist in the taking of a bird, mammal, amphibian, reptile or fish. For purposes of this subdivision, "night vision equipment" includes, but is not limited to, the following:
(1) An infrared or similar light, used in connection of an electronic viewing device.
(2) An optical device, including, but not limited to, binoculars or a scope, that uses electrical or battery powered light amplifying circuits.
(e) A person shall not be arrested for violation of this except by a peace officer.
I took all of this directly from the 2019-2020 Fish and Game booklet. I am not a lawyer or any kind of legal counsel. I just err on the side of caution because I definitely don't want to be worried about dropping the soap. Take the above as you will, your mileage may vary and a really cool DFG officer just gives you a warning. But in My experience when dealing with DFG officers they are really cool people, but take the job seriously. I have to agree with the above mentioned "Don't be that Guy" and make it all the more difficult for us to enjoy this great Air Gun sport.
