Night Shooting! What are you using? WHY???

So you want to use your normal scope as well. Or just the nv scope? I want to use my normal scope to shoot in the day time so I got the nv007. It do both day and night but I take it off when shooting in daytime. It's a add-on you attach to your normal scope for nv. If you dont need a normal scope and just want a nv to do day and night time shooting. The nv008 would be the better choice.

I used a Nitesite Wolf. Did not care for the bulk and that I could not use the scope / gun at my shoulder like normal but it worked OK. Sold it and I traded for an X-Sight 4K and it works for all my needs. My 2 only critiques for it are I don't like the bulk of the illuminator that is required and even when the screen illumination level is set to low it tends to blind my scope eye for night vision for a while after using it. I think the Thor would be a much better platform since it is a thermal sight but it cost 3 times as much for the same features as the X-Sight I own.

I also use an X-sight 4k 3-12x and like it. They often come out with firmware updates and occassionally add features etc. The scope is very good but I agree with T3P... thermal would be nice! I bought it for price / performance ratio and it's a good compromise. Works well with the included illuminator out to at least 100 yards, battery life is good, good reticle choices and the ballistic calculator/compensator seems spot on. It also corrects for elevation (shooting up into trees) and will do wind if you take the time to input. It works very well in the day as well and records with good quality. Quite useable and handy actually. The scope cannot compare with a quality rifle scope for detail, but then most of those don't do what this can do. Just wish it had a LRF incorporated (one available for purchase).

A bait station with WiFi controlled 10 watt red led spot light with a 6 degree spread and WiFi webcam with motion alert. When the webcam gives me an alert I look at it on my phone and if appropriate turn on the led light. The light ramps slowly from off, dim to bright over a programmed period of time, I use 30 seconds, to not spook the critters. The light is place over 20 yards from the bait station and not next to the shooter's position. Then I can use a regular illuminated scope and the view is almost as good as daytime. Most of the time the critters 1st look at the light and then do mind it at all and soon go back to munching at the bait station. I found mounting a flashlight to the gun has a few deficiencies, not as bright, alerts the critters to look at the shooter, gun movement (light movement) more apt to startle the critters.

Thanks for input. I actually have an ATN that 1. I don’t know how to use, 2. Don’t really need often. Got it used and is in so so condition I guess. Probably awesome if I knew how to use.

The inquiry was geared more towards curiosity about the other systems that can be used with conventional scopes. Specially since the advent of the ATN & Thermals, yet I see those other ones being used readily by the likes of Matt, etc.

I first went super cheap at the time without diligence in my research haha I bout a Bushnell monocular that had a pic rail mount and put a holosun red dot in front of it all under 375 dollars at the time. It took pictures and records video but not super duper but more than enough for me at 50 yards and under. I now use the monocular for spotting at night before i switch on the atn pro.

I have since went to the x sight 4k in the larger zoom 5 - 20 x version and it is better than my older first rig. I can do around 80 yards easy with my old eyes but really do not care for shooting that far out on larger game at all . with them I like it the closer the better haha. smaller game I am fine with it at that range. I can see farther for sure but do not have confidence in my ability to make a precision shot at that range in the dark haha. It is fine for what I use it for so far.

I have had the older versions but they were in my opinion to big of a battery hog for 6 hour night hunts I got rid of all them and went with the newer one for better battery life.

I like his pick haha if I get an itchy finger I would like to try one of these out myself. Seems to have pretty good bang for your buck reviews. 👍
