Nielsen .22 Slugs and my daystate regal xl

So after watching some of Matt Dubber''s videos that featured Nielsen slugs I was curious how they would perform in my regal xl. So I hoped on the Nielsen site and found that they sold sample packs. I ordered the 21,23,27,28gr sample pack which includes 25 of each of the 4 slugs.

Below are the initial results of 5 shot groups at 50yds, I wish I had a chrony to report velocities, alas I do not.

Here is how they performed:
21gr: slightly over 1inch grouping with one I believe to be a flyer.
23gr: best performer, around a half inch group also with a flyer.
27gr: worst by far, very large group
28gr: half inch group with 4 of the 5, 1 inch overall.

I also included a group of 18 gr JSB though it isn't a good representation of how they usually shoot. I shot the first 4 groups of Nielsen's with almost zero wind. By the time I had some coffee and shot the jsb group and the bottom three nielsen groups I now had an 8 mph confused swirling crosswind. Generally the jsb 18gr group just over 1/2 inch at 50yds.

Conclusions: .23gr Nielsen slugs groups very well out of my regal and I plan to buy some. More research is definitely needed, and it will take some time to get accustomed to the new pellet trajectory of these pellets. The fact that they are much more resistant to the wind is impressive. The jsbs were getting pushed all over...the 23gr especially didnt seem to be effected much!

I agree, in hunting or open field shooting I shoot slugs exclusively. The wind just kills any type of accuracy past 50 to 60 yards.

Not bad shooting get the barrel cleaned up play more and you should be able to tighten up that group. Out of the Nielson's my daystate shot the 23 grain the best as well.

That said, I will be posting groups of the AONCO 22.5, and 24 grains types here in a bit.
