NIB Blue Streak .177 GB

Well I was surprised to see a NIB Blue Streak .177 cal on GB, and it only had a $99.00 opening bid. I ended up winning it for $130.00 and $20.00 shipping. I love the older styles, but having it in .177 makes it easy for pellet selections. OK its a Benjamin Sheridan 397, trigger is awful, does not seem to leak, so I will shoot it and see how it compares. Anyone else out there have any experiences with the 397?

A buddy of mine lent me his for a few weeks to settle out some issues. I enjoyed it while I had it.

Enjoy it and shoot it in good health

I'm sure I will, I know they sold for nearly $200.00 the last time they were advertised, how ever many years back that was, I didn't want to pay that much because I felt the older ones were better and more desirable. But at least being new, it will be nice to know it's all stock. What issues did your friend have with his? I know I have 2 of the 5mm versions, one from the late 70s, and one from the late 80s, the only thing I noticed is the bolt pulls back further on one compared to the other. I have no idea if it was re assembled wrong by someone, or if it's supposed to be that way. Thanks for the reply, Jim

He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it. The biggest issue was his cheap, completely useless scope. Wouldn't hold zero at all. He bought it for pesting, but just ended up missing almost every time. I tried one of my scopes, and it was much better. Pumping it was VERY difficult, and it leaked as well. Basically, bad seals and a good lube job made it serviceable at best. I would not have used it for pesting because i couldn't group it consistently enough past 20 yards. Got it somewhat shootable, but he insisted on not replacing the scope, so my few weeks were wasted. He put the original scope back on.....he still uses it to "pest". The pests in his yard are very fortunate.

Oh well..

Well I hope they were not all that poorly built, it's amazing to have 30 and 40 year old blue streaks that probably still have the original parts in them, and are very accurate with open sights. One of mine for some reason, the rear sight is adjusted all the way down and I'm still hitting high. Most likely if I get further than 5 yards from my target it will make a big difference.

Contact Tim at Mac1. I remember something about the front site being to low. I thing he would add a piece of rod to build up the site.

Also, check the front of the barrel for paint. The qc was really bad at that point and during painting it would get in the barrel and destroy the accuracy. Use a q-tip with some paint thinner or acetone just on that first inch.
