Next Level of Slugs in ballistic gel

Just wanted to share a short video of the extreme slugs that Long_Shot and I have been perfecting over the last year or so in some fancy ballistic gel.

These new slugs open up almost instantly on impact and expand to huge sizes before the controlled fragmentation. Even at very low speeds. We've been able to manipulate lead in to doing just about everything we need it to in order to get maximum energy dump with extreme tissue damage on on delivery.

Enjoy! https://youtu.be/_Gq6LmEk0SY

Seems we have been working on the same idea independently. I wanted a fragmenting slug for the Raptor, yet one that would open violently for the 470 to 490 fps in the PP-700 pcp pistol. as I have seen post from other shooters that state that they could not get HP's to open at even 600+ fps in their lower powered air rifles.

I have two different slugs I am testing now. Both from modded molds I hp'd myself. Further mods to the slugs have been very rewarding. First target is 80 yards, 930's, 35 gr hp slug with one shot to settle the reg., and 10 on target in a mild cross wind.Knife

80 yards at 930's .218 Raptor fx superior heavy bbl. 1 gal water jug. It mic's at a little over .60 cal. Next pic is a mistake. Please ignore.

My how time flies. Talon Slugs is what the .22 eventually became and were available to everyone for a while.

I can't even begin to explain how many hours of R&D went in to the final design. Several different configurations in different media and even cadavers were tested. Not only would we chrony the projectiles before impact but also after passing through so that we could measure the amount of energy being deposited. Also hours of slow-motion video that was studied and compared.

It was quite a journey but a fun and educational one. Hard to imagine stopping a 28 grain .22 slug going 940fps with only 2" of ballistic gel. We were shocked when the full size gel block was spitting the slugs back out at us!

From what I can tell looking over old posts — you've been making these slugs years ago! 👍🏼 Great development! Great contribution to our hobby!

Your kind of testing, using ballistic gel, and only a tin slice — like our quarry — is far superior to other testing mediums and methods. 👍🏼

Lucky those who got to buy your slugs while Talon Slugs was operating! I surely hope some big company buys your design and produces your fragmenting slugs at reasonable prices.

Must be a total blast to shoot pest shredding high BC projectiles. 😄
