Newbie LR suggestions...

Hello all,

I grew up with air guns but have been shooting the real thing for a while now. I really want a nice long-distance air gun I can shoot from my house. I can shoot 9mm all day long at 50' at the indoor ranges around here, but where I am -- long-distance shooting with a real firearm is hard to come by. My house looks over a preserve, so if I am looking for something that can do a 6" group at 50 - 100 yards for around the $200 mark, preferably that is not too noisy so my wife doesn't complain. I don't want to spend too much to get started, but want a platform worth building upon -- so I am somewhat flexible.

Any recommendations for something to get started with? Thanks in advance, I appreciate any recommendations!

I dont target shoot alot but i know I can head shot starlings at 60yds with a crosman phantom 1000, not sure if they still make these but you should be able to get a crosman quest pretty cheap, its the same basic gun. You can pick up a hammers scope on amazon for around $50. That would get you far better than 6"groups at 50 yds and should at 100yds as well but that requires a lot of holdover. Also this is a spring gun that requires proper technique to shoot well. There are much better rifles out there, but i wouldn't spend alot on a hunt for groups the size you are asking for.

I would research the different types of airguns there are (PCP, Brakebarrel, CO2, Multi Pump), and see what they are best suited to and how much they cost and then begin to narrow down your choices. Then you could bring those choices back here for some feedback. Good Luck and take your time. It will be worth it to get the gun you most want.
