Newbie intro and question

Hi folks!

Total newbie to the forum and to the world of air guns. Never owned a gun until grackles decided to turn my pool into a poop dumping ground...

Things escalated rather quickly in the equipment department last two weeks. I first bought Gamo Varmint .177 from Amazon. Shoot pretty straight from 20 yards, but I only got 1 grackle out of 10 tries from ~30-50 yards. I was shooting without a bipod or sand bags, but mostly It was pretty loud for my quiet neighborhood. So, I returned it and got the Gamo Raptor “Whisper” .177 from Amazon hoping that shroud would quiet down the report. Boy, was I wrong! It was louder than Varmint with supersonic crack added to the report. On top of that I could not zero the gun for the life of me due to lack of skills, and .177 pellets flying close to subsonic barrier making it unstable.

Then, I got introduced to the world of PCPs watching AEAC and other videos... and quickly fell in love with FX Dreamline. I called one of the well known vendors and they say the rest is history...

.22 FX Dream Pup

DonnyFL Sumo

Amazon noname scope 6-24x50

I’m still waiting for a foster-1/8 BSPP connector to arrive, so I can fire up the pump, and charge the gun.

I have a strange question for you experts. Upon inspection, I found these two “marks/dings” on the side cocking lever. Metal is pitted as if someone marked it on purpose. Is this some kind of repair mark, or a sign that this gun was used for some other purpose? I only fired 10 pellets before pressure dropped below 100bar, so I didn’t have a chance to zero it. Assuming it is just a cosmetic issue, would you file a claim with the vendor to either replace the lever or get the gun exchanged? Thanks!

Well I’m glad you got a decent rifle. Tuned springers can be hard to shoot let alone a stock a Gamo with stock scope, rings, pellets.

Don’t own any FX but someone will know about those marks. Looks like cocking it caused it to rub on something connected to linkage or block. They’re symmetrical. I’d call, ask. Return if it bothers you or maybe a discount but be quick as you probably have 30 days or less.

Hey leeboy

Congrats on the new Dreamline 👍

I zoomed your image of the cocking lever marks as large as it would go and I cannot tell for sure if the marks were made after anodizing. Intentionally or otherwise.

Another possibility to consider would be that they were made during the anodizing process.

When aluminum parts are anodized, they are usually hung on a wire so as not to touch the bottom of the tank or each other during the process.

It's possible that your lever was touching something at those two points during anodizing.

If you have a lighted magnifier, take a really close look at the spots. If the aluminum looks eroded it's likely from the anodizing process as described above.

If the spots look like they've been mechanically peened, dented or cut then it's something else.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the obsession! I had (and still have) an old HW55 springer which was all I needed to keep the property I live on free of ground squirrels-till the "perfect storm" of ground squirrels of 2010. All I wanted was some dead squirrels and what I ended up with was a collection of PCPs and springers along with a consuming obsession! Don't see many ground squirrels around anymore though.....

Yeah, I should call the shop and ask... Thanks for your input.

ive had a bunch of fx guns including the pup. imo just cosmetic damage. black magic marker will almost make them disappear. i wouldnt return it for that, if its the only issue.

That’s exactly what I did after taking pics. I was curious if these are known marks created by some sort of repairs.. unfortunately it’s not just a paint chip, but the metal around the marks are rough to the touch.

Hey leeboy

Congrats on the new Dreamline

Thanks for the input! These marks are definitely created by blunt force. Pits are deep and has rough edges around the marks.

LOL you get me... After netting out 20-30 bird poops a day for a week from pool, I just wanted those nasty grackles to drop dead... Ironically, poop dumping has ceased now that I am “almost” ready to go ape poop ballistic on them... LOL!

I am a recovering car tuning (forged engines and turbos) addict, so I am sort of feeling the same high buying all these cool pcp accessories. This is not going to end well...

Guess, but think they are a set of pinning marks made but a punch. This holds the pin in place.

I paid extra to have the vendor inspect and tune the gun before shipping. Maybe one of the employees with rough hands damaged it while tuning the internals? I don’t know. I’ll give them a call fairly soon and see what they can do about this... thanks for the input!

I recently got my Dreamline Classic in 22 a few weeks ago, and it has those same marks. I think the lever touches the metal piece that moves when you cycle the lever. You can see the piece if you look through the hole in the back. But im not sure...

Interesting! I’ll check this. If this is true, It’s too bad FX didn’t see this minor design flaw..

Thanks!
