New Wildcat

Your Sightron Ranging Magnification is 16x for the 4-16x42 Sightron II that you have on the Wildcat. You are probably calculating your holdovers at 10x. I recommend Strelok or Strelok Pro over ChairGun. Much easier to use in the field. Plus it has almost 1000 reticle choices. But, like was said above, just use the generic mil dot for ChairGun.

Jimmy,
The Hawkes are normally 10X ranging magnification, unless its a higher powered scope like my Sidewinder 6.5-20x42, which has the ranging magnification set at 20X. Most variable power scopes other than Hawkes have the ranging magnification set at the highest power the scope goes to. As far as my Sightron II 4-16x42, and also my Sightron Big Sky 4-16x42, the ranging magnification is set at 16x. How do I know this? I both called and e-mailed Sightron, and they confirmed it. The information is also on their web site, but I contacted them just to be certain. My use of the scopes confirm the correct ranging magnification, since that ground squirrel shot at 107 yards I posted was just over 4 mil dots holdover at 16X. I think Marcella had a Hawke scope that had the ranging magnification at 10X, so he probably used that number for his new Sightron. Doing that would give the mil dot numbers he came up with.
Take care,
Mike

i dont know if you are capable of absorbing all this:
basically what you need to do is: print out the targets you donwload from here Zeroing and practice targets[/QUOTE]http://www.anstonftc.co.uk/targets/embed/

very important in the correct scale, so the bar on the bottom measures 150mm with ruler on your printouts.
99% chance if you just hit print on your pc with default settings on A4, it will not be 1:1 correct.
(you have to play with the viewer software and printer settings like zoom, border size whatever it takes to get it right with your PC printer you own and its driver and printer settings)

then you place it to the exact measured /ranged distance.
then you play with the zoom on your scope to overlay the mildots on the scope with the target mildots. if it overlays at 10x fine, if not just play with the zoom at what.
that will answer the question at what magnification is your scope true mildot at 10x or not.
good luck

So, Mike; what do I enter for Ind. Mag and Cal. Mag, respectively? (I do have my scope set at 10x.) I did check out Strelok, but it indicated that I had to default to a particular home page, so I declined. Thanks :)

Mike, I owe you another one! (I'm maxin'-out my tab with you :).) That worked perfectly! I set the Ind. Mag @ 10x and the Cal. Mag @ 16x, and now the hold-offs are wholly consistent with what I was getting at the range! Awwesome! And now I have a full range of hold-offs out to 195 yds! Thanks, buddy :)

I use Strelok Pro on my iPhone (I think its available for Android also). Not sure you can use it on a computer. Once you try it out, you'll never go back to Chairgun. I think it was like $12 when I bought it (you only pay once for the app), and I think Strelok (non-pro version) was $5. Not sure of the difference, but since Pro was only $12 I just got that one.

With Chairgun, if you want to go to a higher magnification, just input it into the program, but leave the Cal Mag (which is usually called Ranging Mag) at 16X for your Sightron II scope. Or, print out a dope sheet for 10X and 16X, use a 3x5 card size, and keep them with you. I used to do that with Chairgun until I found Strelok, now I just use the phone app.

I have to disagree on this. While it's not free, and you have to spend the huge amount of $5, there are no ads or marketing crap at all. None. Did you actually download the app on your phone? All I can say is that I like it better than ChairGun by a large margin. We spend $1600 for a rifle and $400 for a scope yet we complain about $5 for an excellent app that makes shooting easier? Really?

Well what do you know; input error after all. Who in the world could have guessed that...

Better yet, use the best of both worlds: Chairgun for at home, and Strelok when in out the field...

"Imold"I need to check this Strelok out sounds better then ChairGun the way you guys talk.
It's not free and it is packed with marketing crap. Chairgun works great for me and it's FREE!!
Mike, when I attempted to download Strelok, it required that I default to a particular homepage. Maybe there's another link that does not market other products; do you have one?

Well, buddy; as George Costanza said, "Why should I pay, when if I apply myself, maybe I could get it for free?" Besides, I'm tickled pink with Chairgun.

Chairgun is just fine, no worries. Strelok and Strelok Pro are cell phone apps, so if you tried to download it on your computer I'm not sure what you were trying to do? I was tickled pink with Chairgun at first also. The cell phone pic below is what you see when you look at your phone after your Strelok is set up for your gun, scope and ammo. You can also easily change the magnification slider and it'll change the holdover points automatically. In this case I had 107 yards, flat ground, and a slight 2mph breeze right to left, so it shows the yellow dot where I need to aim. You don't have to have the squirrel in there, it can be a rabbit, rat, coyote, red dot, or a target, among many other choices. Anyway, its all good... ;)

That does look awesome, Mike. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your guidance, as always. I don't use cellphone apps when hunting; I find it hinders my efforts. I want to spot. sight, and fire; not fumble around with my cellphone while the squirrel gets away! I have a Chairgun Scope Cap View taped to my scope cap. I simply check the hold-off and fire :). The same dynamic is at play as to why I don't use turret tapes; it's just another wasteful step that gets between me and putting pellet on pelt!
