New VK slug terminal performance

Went out for two full days of pest control last weekend with Steve (airgun_evolution). I shot this woodchuck in the head at 65yds and followed it up with a shot to the vitals area.

I recovered the slug from just under the skin/hide on the side opposite from where it entered. This is a Varmintknockers 22gr XLHP, 22cal slug and it was doing only 900fps. Accuracy at 50yds was about half an inch.

I will do some 100yd shooting at the range to check group size at higher velocity where the slug is likely to expand more completely. Very happy with its performance so far.

I will only shoot the light ones 125yds max. Anything farther and I use 30gr......out to 200yds. Out to 300yds I use 34gr.

The only other slugs I will consider trying are the new Javelin slugs.

Bob good to see your slug recovery and performance. I think like you limiting the lighter slug to shorter distance is a good idea for retained energy and performance. I too am looking forward to trying some of the Javelin slugs for expansion and the price per 200 ct looks like a good value. Right now for me I am having so much fun shooting the 30 cal. Impact with the Varmint Knockers for groundhogs that the .22 cal Impact is seeing less action. Bill
