New to pcp but waiting on my 2nd one

Hello all. Been lurking here for years now. I just recently got back into air gunning and with the advent of super low cost rifles and pumps i have joined the pcp ranks. I have a wildfire for general fun and some close range pests. Amazon recently put the Hatsan at44s-10 on sale for $248 dollars so of course i had to "pull the trigger" . Rifle arrived in great shape minus the fill probe and magazines. So frustrating. Started the return process and my replacement finally shipped after 4 days but according to the tracking is still 4 days away???? Pretty displeased with the whole transaction at this point but the price saving is going to allow me to justify adding some goodies the this rifle. My plan is to shot the original rifle and the replacment and keep the better of the 2 and send back the other one (i will say the generous return window does work in my favor) Any quick clues or tips to detirmine whick is the keeper? .177 caliber non qe version. I dont have a chrono and 95% of my shooting is done at 20 yards (the distance from my porch to the edge of my property) I have a 2.5x10x40 scope for the rifle but would really like to be able to tell the better shooter without having to scope up. And yes the obvious shot pellets thru both and see whick is more accurate will play a big part.

Clean the barrels well and shoot a couple different pellets as carefully as possible. Give yourself a chance to adapt by shooting a good number. In my experience, there is a bit of variance in accuracy with Hatsans. Should be able to tell which is better somewhat easily. The other aspects probably won't be significantly different. Make sure the air cylinder is good and snug.

IMO any pellet you shoot in a AT44 will be accurate at 20-30 yards. What caliber did you get? I've had a 22 and 25 cal and i found that they will shoot most of the popular dome pellets decently. Also, it case you don't know you will need a male quick disconnect adapter for the fill probe in order to use your pump if you have the female quick disconnect end.

My pump actually came with the male adaptor! I will look at that app thanks for the heads up on it. I got a .177 caliber. They were $75 cheaper than the .22 and $100 cheaper than the .25. Guess i will go ahead and scope them up. I mean really dont need to zero in if im just shooting a couple groups. I guess im kinda lucky that i will get to choose between the 2 but man the wait is killing me. Might just shoot the one tomorrow after work as it came charged to 200 bar. Ill have to hand feed it single pellets but Ill know what it can do

That was a concern of mine is the speeds these seem to shot from the factory. My crosman phantom was cracking like a .22 with anything but the heaviest of lead. It finally settled in after a couple grand but I still avoid light pellets in it. Sure the speed is cool but what the heck good is it if it aint got a steering wheel? Thats why I love the wildfire. So much control at those sub 800 fps speeds. Of course the trigger is like squeezing a brick. I got some heavier lead waiting to go into the at44. We shall see. Ups says the rifle is still bouncing around the FL.

So just came in from doing some paper hunting. Yea despite the Hatsan not having the needed accessories this rifle is a winner. I took 17 shots (2 site shot and 3 each of crosman destroyer, hp and wadcutter and 3 each of gamo hunter and match) all 15 shots fell in a 2 inch circle (so what big deal) 11 fell in a 1 inch circle (sorry Stef still not impressed) 7 fell in a nickle size circle (ok so not too bad). Oh did I mention this was at 20 yards with my 52 year old eyes and bifocals (yea ok but so what) oh yea and stock Hatsan Open Sights? I have never shot like that before open sight. No way im even close to that kind of level. Hell I had to put a great big black x on the paper just so i could aim at the same point consistently. Replacment rifle may get sent back after i take the mags and fill probe. My goal with this rifle was to shoot consistent sub 1/2" groups at 30 yards. Heck I haven't even decided on the scope for this rifle yet and Im almost there. Thanks to everyone for the advice and guidance.
