New Sumo...

Bought a Sumo on a whim to quiet the Impact a little more than the standard FX moderator. We got it home and did a little experimentation with the internals to make it quieter. It wasn't hard, just rearranging and replacing the materials did make a difference for the better. My son looked at me after we got done and said. "dad, it looks kind of plain". So with my son's help and direction, we fixed it. His idea, I just did what he suggested. It was an easy little project to do together, fun and we both like the end result...black and silver to match the Impact MKII.

We took all the felt and wire mesh out of the inside and then cut the felt in 1/2" strips. We then made a thick, 3-4 turn wrap of felt after the first chamber to isolate that chamber. We then did the same thing if front of the last chamber to isolate it. No felt or wire anywhere else inside the moderator. Not a huge difference in overall sound but it does help a little. What is noticeable is that the report is lower pitch, so it sounds quieter to the shooter and anyone else around. If you haven't noticed, my boys and I love to fiddle, tune, and play with our guns any way we can. See ya bud. Stoti

Thank you Lewis. Like I said, it was my 11 year old son's idea. We taped off all the sides except for the recesses. On the end caps I used my son's silly putty to push into the recesses. Then we just painted it with a high temperature, header paint someone recommended the other day on AGN. After it dried, we just pulled off the tape and silly putty...viola! I got the header paint at the auto parts store, it's super durable.

Let me know if you can figure out a way to change the tone to sound like a goose honking!!!

I have a goose problem, and I have a tree hugging neighbor feeding the geese. I need a moderator that sounds like a goose because my DonnyFL is so quiet, the noise the pellet makes on impact carries a long way. I figure if I can make a head/neck shot, and the discharge sounds just like a goose honk, this will cover up the pellet strike.

Then...I can claim either a meteor strike on the bird, or a naturally occurring catastrophic artery blow-out in the bird's neck!

I'm tired of cleaning up goose dropping. (dumpings...big birds!!!)

Kindly 'Ol Uncle

Buy some Navy Seal brand firecrackers and start chucking them. It's a little waterproof firecracker but has the loudest report.
