New Shooting Bench

I finished up this past weekend. I've included some in process shots should anyone want to replicate this. Materials are pressure treated 2x4's, one 8ft.4x4, 5/4 decking, pocket screws and 7" lag bolts.

Just curious , on the sides of the horizontal 2x4’s I see what looks like you sawed in some grooves. What is the reason for this . I’m going to try and make a table also and I don’t understand their purpose.

Looks to me as though screws went into those grooves from the underside. Nice idea to prevent having them -- the screws -- on the top surface of the platform.

Those are pocket holes. Kreg makes pocket hole jigs that are great for this kind of joinery. MUCH stronger than screwing into end grain and as you can see there are no screws in the top because it is attached from the bottom. https://www.kregtool.com/store/c13/kreg-jigsreg/. I just have the K3 and have built all kinds of things with it. Check out this quick video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0il_RccBQ4

And yes Brian10956, I plan to add an umbrella holder and something to hang my air tank on. Stay tuned.

Very nicely done! Your new shooting bench turned out Great! 👍

My dad is a life long carpenter, so when the Craig line started coming out, I got him a few jig kits..
At first, I wasn't sure if he'd like or use them, but OMG, they've become a go-to tool for him now..
No more routing / pegging / biscuit joining.. Well.. for the most part anyways..

Glad to see the same process used on your bench. Super clean and super efficient for sure!
