new scope choice - vortex or hawke

I have worked with both companies and have used a bunch of their scopes . Hawke are fantastic for the money and work a treat . They dial well and the glass is good . Vortex does all that as well but the warranty is even better . Look through both and see what you like best . Have you looked at the Vortex Dimondback Tactical at all , Its certainly worth look .

Vortex. I had a couple hawkes and they were a waste of money. I currently have two vortex viper pst gen 2's, One vortex viper pst gen 1 and a diamond back tactical. I have used them all on my airguns except the viper pst gen 1. They are all better than any of the hawks I previously owned including the hawke sidewinder that cost me almost $500. The sidewinder was not clear at the edges of the glass at any magnification and once you got over 16x the whole image would lose clarity getting worse the closer you got to max magnification. The hawke had allot of aberrations in the field of view especially on bright days. The hawke turrets felt mushy and were hard to feel the clicks to the point I never clicked in adjustments for drop. I use click adjustments for drop on all my vortex scopes with no issue and they all have clear images all the way to the edge and at the max magnification for each model.

I have 2 Nightforce scopes on centerfire rifles as well as several top end Bushnell scopes. I can afford quality scopes. I have 3 Hawkes on air guns (2 Sidewinders). They are very good scopes and I will probably purchase more of them.

Im not sure why you quoted my post but I also used nightforce, bushnell and leupold. Not a chance I will ever drop $500 or more on a hawke. I get vortex at dealer cost so a viper pst gen2 is just a slight cost increase over a sidewinder and the sidewinder isnt close in performance. I understand allot of people dont have the luxury of getting a better scope at dealer cost. If you are a vet you can get leupold and vortex 40% off msrp. Im sure theres quite a few airgunners that could take advantage of that and get a much better scope. Im sure nightforce also has a vet discount.

I have a Hawke Airmax 6-24x50 and a 8-32x50. Decent glass, illuminated which is kinda neat. I DONT like the mill reticle and MOA turrets..WHY ? Turrets are kinda mushy but seem to track ok. When I bought my first PCP's I bought these AIR RIFLE scopes... because they were supposed to be for air rifles, hence the name AIR MAX. Decent warranty IF you send it in and THEY deem its a manufacturing defect and not abuse, like tightening the scope rings way to tight and you are the ORIGINAL purchaser of the scope. I also have MANY Vortex scopes or SWFA on my other rifles. The glass on my 269$ Diamondback is better than my 500$ Hawke. Viper 6-24x50 is slightly more than the Hawke 8-32x50 but MUCH better glass with MOA reticle and MOA turrets that are crisp. Vortex also has the VIP LIFETIME warranty.... send it in and it will be fixed or replaced PERIOD.... no matter WHO owns the scope when it breaks. Hawke scope are decent scopes, but not in the same class IMO as a Vortex for some of the reasons I touched on. MY mentality on a good scope is buy once cry once. I had the Hawke 8-32x50 on my Redwolf, I replaced it with a Vortex Golden Eagle HD 15-60x52...a yes I cried when paying for it...but you talk about a sweet scope...

Exactly how I feel about the two.

Finally went for the vortex 4-16x44 and got it today. I'm planning to do a thread review as soon as I have time, thanks everyone for your imputs

Good choice.

The Vortex is lighter and has a better warranty. I’ve had great luck with their products over the years.

I beg to differ... My Hawke scopes come with a lifetime warranty, pretty hard to beat that... I love my Hawke scopes, reason for purchasing Hawke scopes for me was quality, warranty and being made for high quality English PCP air rifles, The brits have been hunting with airguns for a long time...

Hawke scopes are awesome and come with a lifetime warranty, I shot two weekends ago with a vortex and I like my Hawkes better, of course this is just my opinion, I have no stake in the game, all my gear is paid for and selected by me...

I ordered a 6-24X50 Airmax Compact from PA on Monday, paid extra to get it in two days, they sent me a used one, BOO HISS Pyramid Air...!!! I initiated an RMA within a half hour, ten minutes later I called Hawke and explained situation, that was Wednesday... Yesterday I opened my front door and almost tripped over the new Hawke scope sitting at my door... Beat that customer service...!!! And I think its the perfect fit for my new Impact X (after I get some lower rings)…
