It is true that the Impact regulators cannot be retrofitted. 

Generation 1 (before May 2017) Impacts had the short (14mm) piston and small (8mm) housing

Generation 2 (between May 2017 and Serial Number 183534) Impacts (and early Impact X's) had the long (16mm) piston and small (8mm) housing

Generation 3 Impact X's (after Serial Number 183534) have the long (16mm) piston and large (10mm) housing (These are called AMP regulators)



Generation 1 Crowns (before Serial Number 180760) had the long (16mm) piston and the small (8mm) housing

Generation 2 Crowns (after Serial Number 180760) had the long (16mm) piston and the large (10mm) housing (These are called AMP regulators)



The AMP regulators are able to be adjusted down without releasing pressure, but it is still recommended to fire at least 1 shot every 1/4 turn while adjusting down, to ensure nothing goes wrong.

Really? So my Crown purchased last July, serial number 181811 has the AMP regulator in it?

I thought the AMP regulators were newer than that? 

Sure has worked well for me, I'm just really surprised!

I've got the same question stoti, and my serial number is only 50ish off yours. I just emailed FX to clarify.

I heard back from FX, and for the crown it is indeed true that all serial numbers starting with #180760 and higher have the AMP regulator. 
Very surprised, as the AMP regs weren't publicly announced then!

I am going to contact FX and get some more clarification on this.
