New Red Wolf

Yes, this is something new (software version?) on the newer guns.

My newer .303 HP with the GC2 electronics has it:

My older .22 HP with the GC2 electronics doesn't.

Daystate has an addendum to the owners manual dated July 2020 which describes the function of the new magazines, as well as all of the new and different programmable features:

Red Wolf Handbook July 2020 Upgrades

Some owners (and others who just like to complain) didn't like the fact that the rifle timed out and needed to be awakened, or wanted the display light to stay on longer. Both of these can now be addressed through normal trigger-press programming.

This is good news! I own one of the very first Red Wolfs sold in the US, and it is in for service, now. I am very happy to see that the software can be upgraded to the current version!

Note: I don't believe all RWs can be updated/upgraded. I think that the initial guns with the GCU2 electronics can be. But I have not heard that this is possible for the even older guns with the GCU1 hardware.

But please let us know what you find out!

Yes, this was my situation. I had one of the first GCU2 standard power Red Wolf rifles. It had the new hardware but had the old software on it.

I appreciate the ability to upgrade the software to take advantage of new features. It always bugged me to have a rifle with an 11 shot magazine and a shot counter that only went up to 10. Plus, AoA fixed a couple things and tuned the power for me at the same time. 👍

All Red Wolf/Safari's can be updated in terms of replacing the required hardware to bring them to current spec. Only the GCU2 boards can actually be software updated to the cuurent version software. The GCU2 boards use a 3 cell battery vs the original 2 cell and have a SIGNIFICANT energy output improvement. There are a small number of hard parts that would be changed if upgrading to a GCU2 or Heliboard on the original models to handle the higher power better for durability. One would likely have to take the rifle in to Daystate or AOA to get the new software as it has not been made available to those of us with programmers.

Bob

Mine was a GCU2 and I did have to send it in for the update.

I wonder if anyone has ever updated a GC1 to a GC2?
