I will get rid of my Beeman R9 in .177 because it isn't as accurate or as powerful as my HW98 .177.

The Beeman R9 and HW98 are the SAME rifle except for the stock and barrel shroud. One can't be more powerful than the other.

Wrong. My HW98 .177 shoots at velocity way higher than the Beeman R9 I bought from Straight Shooters some years ago. Compared to a simple HW95 .177 Plain Jane model I get 798 fps at the muzzle.

In the HW80 .177 I get MORE. The Beeman emblazoned rifle is NOT as good as the HW 80 or 95 or 95L.

Want me to compare the rifles in .177 to the .177 Beeman R9? 

HW95 .177

HW98 .177

FWB Sport .177

HW30 .177

HW35E .177 Silver

HW35E .177 Blue

The R9 Beeman is LESS than the HW95L or HW95 or HW98 in the same caliber.

You are hanging on to a dream Mr. Beeman gave up a long long time ago to Huntington Beach after Santa Rosa after San Rafael.

Beeman and his name mean nothing to me after having his R1 in .177 and seeing him sell out his business to Huntington Beach where all the rifles became centered to buy.

They are all weak and inaccurate performers compared to the HW80 Today and the R9 as well in the face of the NEW HW98s today.

Why do we want a "Beeman" nowadays unless you are collection artifacts from the past not comparable to TODAY!

Just get an HW98 and END it. All the chatter and talk disappears in the face of a working HW98 made TODAY or YESTERYEAR.

You want perfection? For an "R9"?

No can do! Start with a 98 and suck up the cost right away. Then, you'll never need a replacement to the caliber you choose. And you CAN choose .25, .22, .20, .177 in the 98 to beat the horse feathers in the "R9" Emblazoned Gold Trigger Ambistock thing made now.



Go to HW to get the best.

Beeman excused himself and his company and no longer is a defense for any more "Beeman" rifles made by HW.

I’ve got a lovely HW95 in .22. Mine isn’t tuned (left it for another day) and it’s just straight from the factory. I just put a little of my own moly I had from a v-mach kit for another rifle. I gotta say, even though it’s not tuned, I’m still shooting half inch at 50 yards. Here’s something I noticed from your photo though…you’re using a bag rest. I’d give the “artillery hold” a try. That’s the ONLY way I hold my springers. Bag resting them has never once gotten me a good group by my own standards. Really try and get your hand placements memorized so that the rifle recoils in the same manner after every shot; that’s the key to getting a good group with a springer. Other than that, try some H&N Barracuda FT’s and JSB 10.34 grains and see how those shoot.

I've had mixed results with the artillery hold. Many of my springers have their own preferred hold. The biggest factor in my humble opinion, is duplication. Can you duplicate your hold each time. It seems to be even more important than in my firearms...

Consistency shouldn't be under-estimated.

bi/tri-pods have been fine for every springer i've ever used.

i aim to believe one can shoot about any gun in about any convoluted position and do so accurately. with enough mindful practice and consistency!

I'm very content with my R9 I can smoke varmints and pest birds with confidence works well in the burbs 

I’m kinda wondering if Hobbyman2007 is on the right track. If there was some (hopefully inexpensive) way you could try to get the gun to fit you better. Maybe a thicker recoil pad like these: https://limbsaver.com/pages/recoil-pads-showcase

You made a good choice in getting it tuned. I found the R9 out of the box a bit rough shooting for my taste. As others have said it’s worth giving it a fair chance to earn your affection and it’s always fun to have a selection of guns to shoot to keep things interesting.

I'm not selling the Beeman R9 .177 because it is workable and has all the features to make it a more than passing rifle.

It is history and mine came from Air Venturi via Straight Shooters.

I will recant the idea my Beeman R9 .177 gold trigger rifle is "less" than my HW98 .177 and HW35E .177s in Blue and Silver.

Anyway, once I added an HW95 .177 to my collection it made me look again at the extras on the R9 as embellishments unnecessary to performance.

I am happier with my open sighted HW95 .177 than my R9 .177.

I am happier with the .20 above the .177, and especially the .25 above the .22.

You see, I think our choices in springer air rifles are BETTER with .20 and .25 rather than .177 and .22.

Main reason I went with the traditional caliber of .22 is, that a lot of small ma & pa stores around in the smaller towns dont know that their are other calibers made.


More than twice i have packed up everything, and left the pellets sitting on the table. Only having to go to a store where they only stock the .177 bb’s, .177, and .22 pellets.
