If you don’t want to fit spacers you could try a slip on recoil pad to increase the length of pull. 
I can’t imagine the trigger on this Gamo you keep mentioning is as nice as a Rekord.

Honestly, I hardly notice the trigger difference. 



Having started out with cheap crap, I adapt myself to the gun, not the other way around. :)



I rarely change them or mess with settings. I haven't done anything to the R9 from new out of the box other than shoot it.

Do you have access to a longer range? You might not notice the difference so much at 25 yards. The other thing is, when you take it for a walk. All of a sudden the fact that it doesn’t weigh 9 pounds is an advantage.

I hoping it'll shine at longer distances. But alas, I don't have that luxury yet.

I'll never be "out in the field", so it's weight doesn't mean much to me. If anything, I've found heavier better with bench-rest shooting.

Nah, really, it's a fine gun. Just seems to be a lot of HW posts here. This one will be my first, assuming "Beeman" counts. :)

Haven't figured out why yet, as I really am not enjoying shooting it as much as I had expected. I've yet to nail down exactly what "it" is. Perhaps because it's the smallest of all I have, at only 42" long. For a guy that's 6'2", 200+lbs, it feels too small for me.


Waited so long, not just for the funds, but all the time and research that went into finding the "right" one. Just to realize the ones I have at a fraction of the cost are a better fit. :(

Maybe I should have picked up a new ASP20 before Sig stopped selling them.



It shoots fine. But heck, at just 25-yards bench-rest, everything does. My $150 Gamo can do this too.

Almost anything can be made to shoot. Some brands generally shoot pretty good right out of the box. Unless you are very lucky that raises the price, sometimes quite a bit. Almost any gun will shoot one pellet well. Some guns will shoot almost any pellet well. Unless you are very lucky that raises the price, sometimes quite a bit.

Usually you get what you pay for and that rifle looks like it is delivering. Let it grow on you.

I do have an R9 and it's compact profile may not be comfortable or even useful for some purposes; I would highly recommend the HW90 if you decide to try another gun - it won't be a disappointment!

That's what folks said about the R9. :)

Although a solid $100 more, I almost chose the 98. Or the HW97. The '90 is almost $800, and at that price, I'd just buy a real gun.

Already took a lot of convincing myself to spend as much as I did for the R9!


Oh well, too late now. I'll give it a few more solid tries before selling it off to someone who'll enjoy it more than I.

Bill_S where did you get the shroud for the barrel? Looks awesome, similar to the barrel on my 98. I take the sights off all my guns and I hate the V- groves on the end of the barrel. Crow

@crowski... The moderating shroud was part of the TK modifications that Maccari did to the gun before sale. He did modifications to a limited number of them, and they sold out fast. This was about 20 years ago.

I get buyers remorse pretty much every single time unless it's a model that I am already familiar with. Wait until you spend $1500 on the latest and greatest and it doesn't shine like you thought it would. I have learned that I build these things up in my head so much that when I actually get one in my hands, I realize that they aren't as great as I had made them out to be. It's on me.



Just spend some time with it and see where it goes from there. You may find that you end up bonding with it.

@pdxFrank, Try something like this. Roll up a blanket, we need soft. Fine the balance point on gun, most favor a tad at the end of bbl. You know the rest. Follow through and for God's sake keep the thumb pointed up.

Sorry for the threadjack. @shambozzie Would this blanket method also be suggested for shooting an HW97 off a bench?

My friend, there is no comparison between an R9 and any piston gun Gamo makes. Either you have the worst example of an R9 that has ever been produced, or there is a conflict of interest here. I will leave it at that.

One wouldn't think so. Otherwise I would've just bought two or three gamos for the same price.



I didn't say there was anything wrong with the R9. I said it and I aren't best of buddies. At least not yet.



Not sure of this "conflict of interest" you speak of, although seems you hinting I work for gamo or such.



At the moment I own one gamo rifle. One.

And one Walther and one Diana and one Beeman and one, no wait, two Crosman and one Xisico and one Winchester air and one Daisy Red Ryder.



I have no loyalty to ANY brand. I brag about what works (Gamos often do) and complain about what doesn't (ugh, Umarex).



And EVERY "FX" is ugly. ;)

I bought an R9 .177 from Flying Dragon Air Rifles in late February. I was disappointed in its accuracy at first. It took more than 500 pellets before it came into its own. Now, wow!!! 

I cut my airgun teeth on inexpensive air rifles, tuning and honing them into what was very similar in accuracy to the targets I had seen posted of Weihrauch rifles. I was super satisfied with my lower priced rifles but had hoped one day to own a Weihrauch. 

It was not until I was given a HW50 that I realized where the differences between Weihrauch and the cheaper brands come into play. It is in quality, durability, consistency, and greater accuracy at 35 - 45 yds.
