NEW POLL -- ARE PCP guns getting better ?

Are guns getting better? No, but breaking new ground with barrels and ammo, Yes

Am i better shot? Yes, but after over 3000 shots a year who wouldn't be

Quality, is getting cheaper. Most of the brands have a great gun at entry level price that will hold a 1"group at 50 yards right out of the box. With a good barrel cleaning will shoot 1.5-2" groups at 100 yards

IMO

What I am noticing is the price point for mid-good PCP air rifles is dropping. I was shocked how good the inexpensive Benjamin Maximus is. We are not talking match grade, but we are getting a lot of accuracy for the dollar. I am also seeing a lot more features arriving from the factory. At one time, a regulated air gun meant someone had modified a gun after it left the factory. Now we are seeing several brands embrace producing a regulated product. We are also gaining increased efficiency (less air used per shot). For the big bore folks, we are seeing some rather outstanding FPE figures in .45 caliber, and some solid numbers in .357 caliber offerings. Manufacturers have figured out that air rifle barrels need to be produced slightly different than classical firearm barrels, and we are realizing positive results from their efforts.

So YES.

I think all equipment gets better over time. It's a given. However, shooting skills are perishable. It takes continuous practice to just maintain a standard, let alone improve. In that light PCP air rifles although are expensive to buy into, they are very affordable to shoot. I was a competitive shooter with pistols in my younger years. I used to shoot in excess of 300 rounds a week in practice. Even doing your reloading as I did, it is very expensive. I am now retired and no longer have the same level of disposable income as I once did, but I can afford a tin of pellets every week. So, in answer to the OP's question, yes the equipment is improving, but the real difference we are observing is an overall improvement of shooting skills because of improvement in affordability.

What i do see with newer pcp guns is 1 now most are regulated , the biggest improvement is efficiency more shots with air, I feel prices are extremely over priced with guns and slugs , Today 22 rimfire bullets are cheaper then 22 slugs come on , a rimfire had gun powder and brass ,

If you look at real center fire guns they dropping in price , I can buy a gun for sub 400 and shoot out to 1000 yards , 10 years ago you had to spend 3x to be even close , I believe the air gun market is over priced , but i love my hobby ,

AS far as accuracy it has improve , But entire gun industry accuracy has improved , in 1990s I shot 1000 yards , which was world class , today a ultra long shot is over 4000 plus yards ,

here is todays rifle standards

0 - 300y point blank range

300 to 800 short range

800 to 1200 medium rang

1200 - 2500 long range

2500plus ultra long range

this was unheard of a decade ago

I would have to say scopes have improved more then guns with technology , the glass today is fantastic , now tier 1 scopes use apochromatic lens and Low dispersion glass , so it is easy to see things at ULtra long distances which were unable to see a few years ago , I would say Glass improved so much , I can shoot at very low power out to 1 mile like 6x to where as prior we used hi mag glass which just distorted images , so I believe scopes advanced most , and prices are up as well some tier 1 re dropping in last 2 yrs due to new models claiming bleeding edge .
