New pcp guy

As several of you know, I have dove into the world of air gunning and am drowning in the fun of trying not to set my savings account on fire...! 😁

And since it is not here quite yet, I have been preparing some items to be ready when it does get here.

I would like to ask, how loud of report comes from a taipan vet short...? I assume it goes with velocity.

Scenario goes like this; I plan on shooting it at both higher and lower velocities. I realize at the lowest accurate setting it should be extremely quiet.

However on the highest accurate setting, do you think i should consider extra moderation...? I was thinking a donny fl adaptor paired with the short Atom (?) Moderator by Huggett. Do any of you think this would be necessary...?

Thank you for your patients to a new member..

Rich...

Depends on caliber. I have a .177 and at 18 fpe, it's pretty backyard friendly. Almost dead silent with an additional moderator. The .22/.25 are going be much louder. I personally think that they need an additional moderator to be friendly for suburbia. But semi rural you'll be just fine.

Do you think going g the route I mentioned is a good idea ? Or should I go with a bit longer hugget on the factory moderator...?

I'm getting a .22 caliber shorty...

The auditory report of an airgun is very subjective.

I say try it out first before buying any additional adapters/moderators. One of the many appeals of the Short is the length. Hang a moderator on the front, even a short fat one like a Tatsu and you just added over 4 inches, and the length increase only goes up with other moderators.

Neither of my Vets has a moderator, just the one they come with. The Short is very quiet in OEM configuration at less than about 25 or fpe, in either .22 or .20. Loudness goes up with fpe output though, max it out around 32fpe and it'll have a little more noise, not sharp or painful or even offensive in the slightest, just not "hey is this thing broken?!?!" quiet. The Long does 41fpe and it's plenty quiet.

The Long and the Short (see what i did there) of it for me is that I'll take a bit louder as a trade-off to keeping the guns compact. But everybody has a different situation, which is why I suggest getting the gun and shooting it at whatever fpe you think you'll use it most to see what you think about the report, and if you're willing to make that trade for quieter but longer.

(I had a Donny FL adapter for the Veteran and sold it. The extra length really bugged me. And I have a Tatsu that has been been on various guns. It's on my FT gun right now. It does okay but doesn't quite as much as my longer Huggett or my Hogan Decimeater. It's on my FT gun for all the reasons stated above, that gun is already extremely long, and a 6 or 7 inch moderator just got ridiculous, so it has the 4.33inch Tatsu. Tatsu isn't as effective as a longer skinnier at quieting down guns in my experience. It's all a trade-off though).

Like others say really depends on your needs. Like Franklink above, I went for the Shorty for it's length. I didn't want to add another mod on the end and see no reason to at 30fpe. Mines tuned at 880fps with the AA 16gr and is definitely quiet. Backyard friendly for sure. But my backyard friendly is different than others as I don't live super close to neighbors. I don't find it offensive at all noise wise. Tuned at 14fpe it sounds broke.
