New PCP for Hunting small game up to Raccoon sized game would love your input!

I would love to get into the PCP game but must state that I am on a pretty tight budget as a single dad of two!
So here is my question what would the best setup for a PCP be for hunting pigeon squirrels and once in a blue moon raccoon's
I am most concerned with accuracy and price as a second for caliber I am interested in either .22 or .25
I would like to try to keep the whole kit with air source at under $1000.00 Canadian ...and yes I am in Canada lol
I will likely be purchasing the gun from Air Gun Source as it is the most local supplier of PCP guns for me and it would be a nightmare to order it from the USA through a gun broker and all the red tape that would come with it regarding Canadian law and firearms purchased outside of Canada!
Thanks so much for your input and I look forward to hearing your varied responses!
Thanks again for your time Jonathan

Agreed. You are best to stick with a Canadian supplier. I get all my gear from air gun source (AGS) (of course I'm close to their shop, so it makes it a no brainer). You can pickup a benjamin discovery, which comes with the pump, for $650+tax. You'll need to throw on a scope as well, but you should be able to put it all together for around $1000.

I've never actually shot the disco, so I can't comment on it personally, but Ted's got a review on it.

I've got a .22 marauder, which shoots great, but with scope and pump will run you closer to $1400. The gun is $700 alone from AGS. One plus with the marauder is that you can pickup the 25 cal for the same price, if you want the extra power.

Anything beyond the above mentioned guns will start to get pricey real fast.

A maurader in .25 cal is going to get about 16 shots on a fill, you're going to really get tired of pumping if you do much shooting at all. The maurader is a lot more gun than the disco, I know it would be a little more than you plan on spending but if you can wait a while and save for it, I think you'd be happier in the long run. If you have a good dealer and they will work with you if you ended up with a .22 mrod that wasn't accurate, that's the route I'd take, the .22 is going to get way more shots per fill and will take care of the critters you mention.

Raccoons are tough buggers to take out. I've managed one so far this year that was taken as a nuisance animal. A .25 Marauder is definitely up to the task especially if you come across one that likes predator polymags. Just be aware if you aim for the head aim for the side near the ear. If you get a heart and lung shot like I did then the polymags really do the trick.

If a Marauder isn't your style I've heard the Hatsan .25 calibers are nice for the price, and the BT65 would be up to the task just as much as the Marauder would.

I have one of the original marauders in .25. I got it from Pyramid Air with scope, pump, rings, 4 tins of pellets, and an extra magazine for $748.54 US back in 2013. I use mine for pest control and squirrel hunting. I have never really had a problem keeping it aired up. Even when I do a day at the range I usually shoot a magazine or two, take a break to check targets and pump back up to 3,000 psi. I don't target shoot. But really, if you are going to take it out and shoot a few clips through it pumping is the way to go. Sometimes I wish I had a .22 just so I could have more shots for the squirrel woods in case I have an emergency or have to rezero my scope. But if I had to choose between just a .22 or a .25 I would surely not give up the .25. The .25 hits like a hammer and on a 25+ pound raccoon you want as much smack as you can get. .25 hollow points I have recovered have mushroomed out over .33 diameter and that is comforting. That pellet also does just fine on squirrels and doves because they are all head shots. Just my 2 cents. .22 can be a great target gun that crosses over to hunting but a .25 is a dedicated hunting tool that might cross over to a target gun in a limited capacity (as long as you are pumping your air by hand). Good luck in your search.

thanks guys I am eating it all up and digesting ..I do have a Pal restricted and non as well as DND papers so no worries there
I have owned a Diana 54 air king in the past in .177 and .22cal and I was living in the sticks beside a train switching station ....shot well over 50 possum and coon hitchhikers with the .22cal. and I am aware that its not a .22 lr lol
I should ask what is the main benefit to the Marauder over the Discovery other then a clip (that I really like) and from what I have read the trigger?
thanks for all the info folks really appreciate it!
