New member with yet another Yong Heng compressor question.

First of all this is a wonderful community. New Guy here. Been reading this set of forums for a couple of years. Air rifle usage three plus years. Lots of reading and learning has been had for me. So far not much to contribute being a newbie. When I can I will help with what I know to repay this place.

Now my question,

I have had a Yong Heng compressor for a couple of years. Use it carefully and do as recommended. No problem until today. Been running the appropriate hydraulic oil. Then after reading what you all have to say bought some Royal Purple Air compressor oil. Drained old stuff and replaced with the purple. Enjoyed a nice morning of shooting then decided to top off me small carbon fiber tank. did the process of starting and had it up to approx. 4000 psi and then I heard a rattle, then a bit of oil spewing from the vent holes from the tall oil base cover. Pressure already built up was not lost. I shout off the tank and bled off the pressure and shut down compressor. Not overheated only got to 55 Celsius. Studied things for awhile while pump cooled off compressor. Fired it back up with plug in tank fill hose, closed the knobs on side of compressor and watched it build pressure in hose to 1000 psi. That was it. Rattle was gone but pressure was minimul. Knobs checked on output side of compresser. Snug and tight. Released knobs again. Let it cool off and drained oil.

Any suggestions from the AGN brain trust of where to start ?

Thanks

Sounds like first stage the big bottom piston ring leakage or piston is cracked allowing the crankcase to be pressurized. Pistons get cracked when the second stage piston gets loose and bangs against the head. It is usually noisy at that stage but may keep pumping for a bit. Rattle could be gone because most of the second stage piston is broken off.

Pistons are like $12 on aliexpress if that is the problem. Although I had to file/sand a few thousandths off the top of mine cuz it was hitting the head when I put it back together. All was good thereafter and it is running fine now and for the last few months.

Biohazardman. Thanks for the link to the video. Yes Houston we have a problem. Yo I have already taken it apart and found the offending part so no video. The piston is caved on the top as Biohazardman thought it could be. I cannot see where the rod on top has been hitting anything yet. Just some light carbon on top. I am not sure how to attach pictures yet or I would of the piston.

Next step would be trying to order a piston and gasket set correct? Anything else that might be addressed while it is apart?

Yes got them ordered too. Only took me a couple hours to do all this. CC declined so I had to assure it was me ordering. What a nightmare on phone with fraud department playing 99 questions. It did go through finally and all is on it's way. 30 to 38 days ETA.

Thanks for your guys help. Better make my shots good and avalable air used sparingly.
