New Member with a new air gun

I know I'm late to the party, but I have had TREMENDOUS success with my asp20 in .177. Someone on here (you know who you are) has me convinced I got the wrong caliber, but I love it nonetheless. I have been very fortunate with accuracy in this gun, and it does give me about 20FPE which had been lights out for all the small game.



My biggest advice is to practice consistency and focus on follow through. The pellet spends alot more time in that barrel than your 10/22, and there is bilateral recoil to contend with. My Asp doesnt mind a fairly snug hold, but I dont rack it into my shoulder like I do my shotguns or rifles. I rest it into my shoulder, and I find my best accuracy is on a bag at the middle of the forearm. 



Edit...and Mine destroyed a vortex scope, but only after over 6,000 rounds were fired under it...Vortex told me I over tightened the rings which probably led to premature failire...

It wasn't me !! LOL ! NO..I'm not saying to anyone that purchasing a ASP20 in .177cal is the WRONG caliber! I only stated that balisticlly the ASP20's powerplant is a little more efficient in .22cal.

I just picked up my first air gun, Sig Sauer ASP20. I haven't fired it yet. Anything tricks, tips, break-in I should know?

This thing is solid, makes my Ruger 10/22 feel like a toy.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome aboard! There's a few guys here that own a ASP20. Me included. Look forward to your thoughts.

You didn't mention what caliber you chose. I have the .22cal and strongly believe the Sigs powerplant is more suited and efficient in .22cal. One pellet that shoots accurately is the Air Arms doomed 16 gr. This pellet fits easier into the bore than most of the other accurate pellet choices for this rifle. You will find that the ASP20 has a tight bore. The Sig Crux lead pellet at 14.66gr is the pellet Sig used for the velocity rating and is also very accurate. The rifle shoots best with pellets in the 15-16 gr range. One exception is the Sig Wraith alloy pellet which is very accurate but do fit tight in the bore. Both Travis at Airgun Depot and Tom Gaylord in their reviews found this pellet very accurate in the Sig. The pellet is listed at 12.35 gr but none of them come near that weight in the three tins I've purchased. They actually weigh 13.3 gr and have more of a semi pointed - rather than doomed - nose. My rifle shoots them at 880 fps and they are accurate ! My stock fasteners have all been treated with blue Loctite and don't come loose. The rear trigger guard screw is a wood screw so don't over tighten it !

It's a funny thing. My other springers tend to loosen the screws over time. I have found my Asp20 does not do that at all. I haven't treated any of the screws and they all stay put......

None of my Sigs screws come loose. I did Loctite them right from the get-go though. I know about the rear trigger guard screw Glen. Did you get the longer replacement one from Sig ? It's longer than the original. They had issues with the shorter one coming loose. They sent me one and I have a second one if you need it ?

Too many toys and projects. I forgot how much recoil this ASP20 in .22 was and got scoped in my eyebrow.

I'd say your eye is to close to the scope. The Sig has some snap but not that much.

We are eager to hear your thoughts on the rifle. Hope to hear something soon.
