New member, first post.

Hello y'all,

Although I am new to this forum I have been around for a while on the GTA.

Id liked to introduce myself and ask y'all's opinion on a very near future buy.

My real name is Regan and I live in Georgetown Texas, I have been in the air and lead game for many years, I'm the proud owner of a highly modified Airforce Condor .25 with way to much money invested in it to ever consider trying to sale it.

I also own a Benjamin Marauder synthetic .25 modified with many of Tim Hill's custom parts, plus a real nice Crossman/Mararuder 2240 I have build up from a .22 pistol to a carbine, basically the only original part left on it is the gas tube and recently brought a Diana Chaser .22 rifle kit to play around with.

I get my air from a Luxfer limited 106 and get it filled a my local dive shop.

So now is the time to step up my game and buy my first high end airgun.

I have narrowed it down to two models and would like some help deciding.

The two runner ups are the FX Wildcat MKII .25 Compact "Warcat Edition" and the FX Wildcat MKII .30 "Warcat Edition hydro dipped and cerakoted look" as the .30 allready comes with the smooth twist X barrel.

I really like the top and bottom picatinny rail on the compact and the shortness of it but I also like the bigger air tube for more shot counts and the exterior regulator screw for adjustability on the .30 and I'm hoping FX with come out with a 700mm X barrel in .25 down the road for this rifle.

Any thoughts and constructive comments are welcome or some other Bullpup I've not considered.

The overall uses of this rifle will be for target practice and the occasional pest control plus some light hunting.

Really looking for that wow factor at this price range.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the club. I own the FX Wildcat MKI in .25 caliber and I must say, for my pesting needs .25 caliber/42-47 fpe is more than adequate for any pesting. In fact, I took out a raccoon that was raiding my bird feeder -- 30 yard shot.

I also own two .30 caliber air rifles -- well, I just sold one of them due to lack of use -- and I am only able to shoot them in my basement or at the rifle range because of the muzzle report and the target impact. I happen to live in a subdivision and I do shoot my other air rifles in my backyard that abuts a wooded area.

If memory serves, I took the bandit with my FX Impact .25 cal., tuned at 45 fpe.

Welcome aboard!

I think the 25 Wildcat Warcat would be a great choice and would also like to share my recent purchase experience since I bought a 25 Taipan Veteran Shorty. I have to say that my 25 Taipan Veteran Shorty is a sub MOA capable gun at 100 yards with Polymags and JSBs.

I just bought a MK1 25 Wildcat and it is in transit to me as I type this. I own 2 FX Wildcats in 22 caliber and 2 in 177 caliber and ALL are MK1s.

Why do I own multiples of same caliber Wildcats? Anticipation of possible issues... Got to have at least one to shoot if and when ones down...

They are really NICE GUNS THAT ARE FUN TO SHOOT! Can't be without one at any given time so that is my reason... I think one spare for each caliber for me is fine... I tend to buy couple of my favorites too...when in question...

I don't own any Impacts yet but if I were to decide on getting that gun then I would probably want to have 3 or 4 of the same caliber. Same reason but possibly a higher probability of down time... knowing my luck!

The Taipan has the best trigger out of all bullpups IMHO. The Wildcat trigger is very close. If long distance 100 yard shooting is your goal then I have to go with the Taipan. The FX Wildcats are pretty and have good accuracy too but I think the edge goes to the Taipan which also has an anti double feed mechanism and seems a bit more durable than the Wildcats. I only have one in 25 caliber and I don't anticipate it breaking on me so I won't need to buy a spare but have plans to buy one in 22 soon but just one in 22 would be fine.

I state this needing only one for each caliber for the Taipan because not knowing the reliability of the Taipan brand I bought 2 177 Mutants, and 3 22 Mutants and NONE of them EVER had any ISSUES! I really liked the first Mutants I bought I bought more thinking just in case either broke I had a spare to shoot but never needed the backups!

About the 30 Caliber, I have a Daystate Renegade HP, RAW HM1000X, couple of FX Bosses in different stocks, couple of FX Bobcats in different generations and different stocks they are great but rarely get shot since the ammo is just too expensive and they use too much air and now that I have my lone 25 Veteran Shorty, I don't see the need for any more guns in 30 caliber to be added to my collection.

Good luck in your search and isn't AGN here ACTION?

TMFG,

Welcome to AGN.

For me, considering the kind of shooting that you indicated, "target practice, occasional pests, and light hunting", your decision is easy. Go with the Warcat .25. Thirty caliber ammo is expensive. A .30 Wildcat, even as efficient as it is, will use lots more air. Your trips to the dive shop will be much more frequent, and your ammo bill will be burdensome compared to .25. Unless you absolutely need the brute force of .30 caliber, choose .25 or even .22 cal. You'd be amazed at what you can do with a .22 cal Wildcat. Raccoons are no match for it even out to 50 yards. And you can shoot a Wildcat .22 all day for cheap, both ammo and air.

Your favorite airgun is the one that you will shoot the most.

No matter which caliber you chose, I hope you're happy with your decision. Wildcats are awesome!

Happy shooting.

Welcome to AGN! What Beeman R7 said about the .22 Wildcat, if your primary use will be for target shooting consider the .22WC, I have a .25 and the .22 Mk1's, both as accurate as the day is long, the .22 has a much better shot count and pellets are 500 per tin, while the .25 is also fun to target shoot it is a little to much of a good thing, I would choose the .22 if I could keep only one, also there is nothing wrong with the Mk1's with the original ST barrels, I would not trade any of my ST's for an "X" type, I have four and I'm happy with them all, I'm certain you will LOVE any variation of the Wildcat you choose there is a lot to consider take your time and enjoy the hunt!!!

Wow ! Didn't expect so many replies so quickly, thanks for the warm welcomes and all the good suggestions.

I was already leaning towards the Wildcat MK2 compact "Warcat Edition" just need some validation, although I love shooting my Diana Chaser and Crossman 2240 .22 C02's there's nothing like a .25 for a do all AG so any AG I will get will be a .25 and up.

2manyAirGunz, thanks for the warm welcome and what a nice coon kill !

GImold, Great looking AG !

Coldair, Wow you have some serious money to spread on AG's, you lucky dog 8o) . My wife would cut my left off if I had your AG addict. Ha! I have not looked at the Taipan Veteran Shorty but will before I pull the trigger. Thanks for the input.

Beeman R7, Thanks for the solid info!

RM100GUY, thanks for your input but there's something about a .25 that pulls my trigger.

Stoti, Thanks for the warm welcome

mister12ax7, thanks for your warm welcome and input.

Again, I commend you all for your quick response and solid info, I very much look forward to being a part of this community!

That Taipan Veteran Shorty looks like the OG edgun IMO, a little old fashion for my taste and the cocking mechanism is not where I'd like it to be.

I was looking at the MKII .30 in the hopes FX would come out with a smooth twist X 700mm liner in .25 for this AG so I could tune it down with the external tunability of having both .30 and .25 cals but that may never happen.

As far as I know, the compact uses 500mm liner. Only .30 uses the 700mm x liner. I think you can get the x liner .25 at 500mm. It would be cool if the wildcat can swap out to different caliber just like the impact. Not an available feature in the mk2

Okay, so I contacted FX USA and talk to someone there about being able to swap out the .30 cal liner for a. 25 Cal liner and it's not as simple as I thought, you would need to buy the entire Barrel, liner and probe to switch out this rifle to a .25 Cal, which in not available yet and I was told it is a 600mm barrel in the .30

Do you mean the fx Impact for the above quote? I just copied and paste from one of the online site on FX Wildcat 0.30: The .30 Caliber Wildcat produces fierce power and phenomenal accuracy due to its 700mm Smooth Twist X barrel. The .30 Wildcat delivers up to 75 ft lbs of relentless muzzle energy using the same barrel and barrel system that is found on the FX Impact X. A competition grade 700mm STX barrel housed within the ground breaking Interchangeable Barrel Liner System. This visionary barrel design allows different barrel liners to be easily exchanged on the rifle, allowing you to match the barrel to the particular projectile you would like to use.

Welcome, You can’t go wrong with the Wildcat good choice, I’ve had mine now for a little over a year and can’t find anything negative about it.

I swear, Jim, if AGN ever decides to put out a calendar with pics of the different rifles of members, yours would easily be in there with this scene/background. Really like this pic a lot.

Sorry I'm so slow to respond to this, I'm not getting email notifications for this thread even though I'm subscribed to it.

I was actually talking about the FX Wildcat MK2 .30 but I'm getting confused about this gun because all the sites say it's a 700mm liner and the guy I talked to at FX USA said it was a 600mm liner and he said if I wanted to swap out the liner for a .25 cal I would have to buy a new barrel, liner and probe in .25 cal, if this the case I do not want to spend all that extra money just to have both calibers.

All I wanted to do was to buy the FX wildcat mk2 .30 cal and be able to switch it out for a .25 Cal liner to have the flexabled of both calibers.

Seeing how this Wildcat MK2 .30 has an external screw to adjust the regulator it shouldn't be a problem to switch back and forth calibers, that being said I'll probably just end up with the FX wildcat mk2 compact "warcat edition" because I don't want to be stuck with .30 cal only.

Thanks,

To me, the coolest new feature of the Wildcat mk2 0.30 is the adjustable regulator. The downside for me with this gun is the total length of 40” with shroud. The Warcat from Utah Airguns is a Compact that is 31” long with a 0.25. Couple with the current availability of the 0.30 pellet & price. Also it is a brand new regulator fx awaiting feedback.

As far as I have read, I don’t think you can swap caliber in the Wildcat Mk2. It would be cool if it can. All I know is the liners are swappable on the same caliber and length for the Wildcat. Meaning a WC Compact can use any 0.25 liners 500mm long. A 700mm 0.30 liner wont work on the Wildcat mk2 Compact.

As you can read, I’m leaning towards the Wildcat mk2 Compact 0.25.

BTW, 600mm 0.25 barrel, liner & probe really sounded like an Fx Impact X standard 600mm. I it also needs a 0.25 pellet magazine. Compact can sound like impact over the phone. I have done that several times, lol
