Yeah, if them there springers diesel, they be just like a powder burner and you need a license for that.

Is there a difference between hunting(which requires a hunting license) versus pesting? Do I need a hunting license to pest in my own private backyard?

For pesting, I can go to home depot and pick up poison, glue traps, etc.. to eliminate these critters in my private backyard, all without a license.

But if I use an airgun to pest, I will need a firearms license(to possess the rifle legally) + hunting license?

Talk about irony and terminology...

Pest and Hunting is the same in NJ unless you are a farmer and if you are a farmer you do not require a hunting license if you are on your own property.

As airguns are classified as firearms in NJ many if not all towns have restrictions with discharging firearms within specific proximity of other properties. So yes pesting in your backyard can be illegal if town does not allow firearm discharged.

NJ is an odd place where the state believes they are leading the country with their ridiculous laws. Believe it or not paintball and certain airsoft guns are illegal as well. But the odd thing is there are a slew of paintball and airsoft fields in NJ. Try getting your head around that logic! So technically the authorities can press charges on the poor teenager and mom who was planning to head over to a local field for a good time. NJ the dictator state.

Paintball, airsoft, B.B.,and pellet guns are not illegal in NJ. They are considered firearms and are treated as a firearm. You must have a FID card to purchase one. Yes, it sucks. But these are the rules we have to live by in this state. As of three years ago, we are now able to use .17 and .22 cal air rifles to small game hunt rabbits and squirrels.

Locker50,what’s stopping you?

I know a lot of guys like to hate on NJ, but we do have a lot of great hunting. Our bow season in some areas run from Sept-February, some zones you can take a deer a day, our small games seasons, Oct-Feb. We get a lot of opportunities that a lot of other states don’t.

Like my parents always told me when I was young, if you don’t have anything nice to say.............

I have 5 1/2 years till I retire. That's why I don't just leave. I'm not going to throw away 31 years on my job and pension for a couple years. Plus I've lived here my whole life, so I can complain about my state if I want.
