New Impact Issues

Update: I returned the Impact and instead of a full refund I opted for an HW100 Carbine in .177 and the remainder refunded. To replace the .25 FX Impact, I ordered a .25 Kalibrgun Cricket Bullpup from Georgia Airguns

I received my new Impact on Tuesday. After work, I ran it over the chrony and tried to sight it in. Factory setting on max, using 25.4gr was around 925, #5 - 915fps & #4 - 870fps. It seemed like I was chasing a verticle POI. I kinda had it roughly sighted at 35yds and gave up for the evening.

Wednesday afternoon I fired a few more thru it still set on #4, where I had left it and tried to sight it in, again at 35yds. It was shooting way low. I did the appropriate clicks and got it where I wanted. I then switched to a 1" spinner @ 40 and put two on top of each other. Switched to 70 yard steel target and could not hit it. I switched back to the 35yds and it was shooting way high. I fired two more shots at 40 on a larger spinner and it weas shooting about 1.5" high. I realized it sounded like it was shooting a lot hotter than the 870fps the day before and louder than just minutes before ( didn't bring out the chrony ). I figured it was the reg breaking in and gave up for the evening.

Today I went back out and took the chrony. 1st shot sounded weak and sure enough, it was in the upper 700s fps and shooting way low. Next shots were in the 820s. Although the shots were in the 820s POI climbed. I turned it to 5 ( around 900fps ) and attempted to sight it in again. I sighted it in ( the group was not good ) and then a shot a full inch + low. velocity in the string only varied 7fps. I gave up

The only adjustment I made was to the power wheel. I did check the thumb screw that secures the barrel and it was tight. I single loaded the pellets for all the shots.

I didn't buy it directly from AoA but another dealer that AoA obviously supplies. What is my course of action?

Man, I am pissed

ETA: I emailed the dealer and AoA earlier

I don't know. Shoot 3 ten shot groups at 25 yds and 50 yds while you have it over the chrony and write down the velocity of each and what power setting it was on, save the targets or take pics of them. You will want to document anything that you do until this issue is resolved. Could it be the scope? I know mine didn't start shooting good at all until I had about 150 rounds through the barrel. Any clippings around the muzzle? Were you using the magazine or hand loading? What does your regulator read? What is the return policy with the dealer you used? Not saying it is normal but the first shot or two on mine will usually strike low on each shooting session. I know you are POed and you have a right to that after spending all that money but you might want to shoot it a little more before giving up on it. I haven't had many rifles that shot really great right out of the box ... if you are getting an ES of 7 fps, it is trying to do something right.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.

Check scope, rings, and scope rail for tightness.
Check barrel locking nut for snugness.
If your using the sliding shroud, make sure it is either extended or retracted all the way and no where in-between.
If using the fixed shroud, take it off. Check for clipping and also re-check your groups.
JSB's? The smooth twist barrels are known to like JSB's.
Check breech Oring.
The reg does take some time to settle in but, it should not be causing 1.5" variation at ~40 yards.

Your FPS spread should only be no more than 30 FPS difference. My FX Impact that I received from AoA had flawless regulator and FPS speeds(within 20 fps) but abysmal accuracy. Barrels were replaced on my Impact with some improvements to accuracy. You maybe lucky and find that just the FPS is the cause for your accuracy lost but even if you do fix the FPS spread, will it shoot well? Did you read my thread before it was taken down? Trust me, I went through what you have gone through and hope you do not make the same mistakes as I did.

Buying from another dealer means you have a few options:
  • If you ask for a refund, they may suggest a 15% restocking fee
  • You have the option to dispute a claim with your credit/debit card company and forcefully yank the money out from them. However, the dealer will usually not be happy if you do this.
  • You can talk it out with them. I got my full refund after some time(you can imagine what I had to do to get mine).
  • The Impact should be under a 1-month warranty repair at the very least. Your dealer will advise you to send it to AoA for repairs, shipping should be a free(and slow) 2-way ground shipping. However, I can attest that my Impact was not fully repaired after the first session. So you may have to resend it over, and over again until they get it right.
  • You can suggest to them that you will be posting a review on the internet based on the outcome of this transaction (Facebook, Google Reviews, Better Business Bureau). They will make sure you are happy of the outcome ;). Although in a way, this is more of a threat.
What would I do?
Return it.

Good Luck

Man... sorry to hear about the problems you are having. Sounds like it could be a number of things. Get your notepad out and go about tracking the problem down in a systematic method.

On a side note, even though I don't own an Impact or any FX rifle, it frustrates me to hear people still regularly getting Impcts with problems straight from the factor. The stage for growing pains has long since passed.

I hope you get everything worked out

It is .25cal. I tried both 25.4 & the 33gr pellets.

The scope is an SWFA 3-15X42 SF. It is 2 months old and was mounted on my Edgun ( I sold to buy the Impact ) and the Edgun with this scope stacked pellets at all ranges.

I haven't heard back from the dealer but already know what they will say " contact AoA", which washing their hands on a brand new $2000 airgun is really going to send me over the edge.

I feel $2K sick :-(

Don't accept that answer if they tell you that.
You have bought your gun from them, so they will have to take care of service as well.
That would be nice eh, just selling guns, and if issues pop up, tell the people to contact the wholesaler/mfr...... Way too easy.
Selling guns is the easy part, it is all about aftersales.

O.t.o.h. it really can't be a big issue, but the Impact can be finicky to adjust.
Have you read the Impact troubleshooting guide already to tackle your issue?

mp44. Sorry your having problems. Don't give up. It's a great gun and when you resolve the problem your going to really like the gun. I've had great luck with mine and am debating about shooting it instead of my Boss at EBR, so they can be vary accurate. Sounds like the scope and mounts are reliable. might try slowing it down around 840 just to have a look. If I had to venture a guess, I would say you are clipping or have gotten a bad barrel. There have been a few slip through to the end user. Take your shroud off and mark the inside of the stripper with a marker and shoot a few rounds. Then look to see if the pellet has touched the inside of the bore of the stripper. You can also do this with the shroud. Then take the barrel off and load a pellet and push it through the barrel to see if it gets scratched, gouged or deformed. There have been a few that had a burr that caused problems. With the barrel on hand load a pellet and shoot with your finger where the mag goes to see if you can feel any air from the breach seal. If you can't resolve the problem and have to send it to AOA, don't despair. Call and talk to them. They have been absolutely golden to work with for me. I buy all my guns from them just for that reason. It will be an inconvenience but it will be taken care of. Sylvan Oh, by the way. Beach-Gunner. Do you own an Impact? Any FX guns? Lighten up. Your attitude is going to give you the drizzles. I've have 5 FX guns and have nothing but great things to say about them. Sylvan

Thanks for all the encouragement and advice.

The dealer contacted me this a.m and is going to email a shipping label to send it to AoA for them to look at it. I am happy the dealer offered that without any prompting. I do remain pessimistic on AoA returning a gun with no issues only because of all the stories I have read of others having repair work done that was unsatisfactory.

Hopefully ( which right now I am not ), I'll be able to report back in a month that all is well.

While I am waiting for the return label I thought I would try one more time.

5 shots @ 35yds, 25.4gr, power wheel set on 5 using an Atlas clone and a rear sandbag. The very low shot is the first shot.

ETA: With the set up I was using, my previous Bullpup, a .25 Edgun, would have clustered all 5 shots into one ragged hole.

Sylvan,

The post I made was not directed towards FX or any specific manufacturer, rather towards all of them and I certainly do not want the drizzles 😳😄. I'm glad you are happy with your FX airguns, I really want to purchase one for myself. Right now I have 3 PCP airguns; 2 I would consider high end (25 cal and 22 cal) and 1 that would be considered a lower end PCP in .22. Each was manufactured by different manufacturers, all I've done with them is tune the hammer spring to my needs. Also have purchased Compressor, 2 tanks, bipods, field pods, pellet traps and other hobby related things; the point being that I like the hobby👍😊 and am invested in it as you are.

The previous post was more about the large cost of the impact and the issues buyers are having with them. The supply chain for this product only has two stops before the gun gets in the hands of the user here in the US; manufacturer and distributor. It's not un-usual for a product that blazes a new trail in its product class to have a few bugs that get worked out along the way to the user. However based on what I'm seeing the two supply chain participants are not concerned or diligent enough to improve the user experience on a $2,000 purchase. So my dilemma is do I spend $2000 knowing this , or wait for them to work it out? Paying $2000 for a product that I assume will have problems and then experiencing them will definetly give me the Drizzles! With myself. 😩 😜

The cool thing about the impact is the adjustability.... the problem with the impact is the adjustability. In an effort to be innovative, they took a simple device and introduced a significant amount of changes and features to tune the output. This in turn creates more and more failure points as people are seeing. No doubt it's cool to be able to turn knobs and adjust things, but I doubt the average hobby airgunner has the knowledge or time to fully extract the benefits of these enhancements. Instead we see issues popping up, and they pop up more frequently than any other platform from what I can see.

I have owned several FX guns in the past, I don't own any currently and don't plan on owning any. My last FX experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. This is my personal opinion based on actual experiences. Not bashing FX at all. I do however
